I for one am not going to let sky rocketing fuel prices change my plans for using and enjoying our RV. So, with that said and a motor home that averages 7 to 8 miles to a gallon I am forced to find ways to save on fuel rather than waiting and hoping that fuel prices will go down. After a little research I was surprised to learn how easy it can be to improve our fuel economy. Whether youre towing a trailer or driving a motor home there are many ways to improve fuel economy. By performing some simple maintenance procedures and changing our driving habits a little we can save a significant amount of fuel.

One shocking discovery was that for each 5mph you go over 60mph is equivalent to paying 10 cents more per gallon. So if youre traveling down the Interstate at 75 mph add 30 cents to the price on the pump! Wow, that can add up quick. If fuel prices drop to $2.65 a gallon youll still be paying $2.95 a gallon.

So how can we improve our fuel economy?

Talk to other RVers that have a motor home or tow vehicle and trailer similar to yours. Compare gas mileage. If there is a significant difference compare notes and try to determine what makes the difference.
Something as simple as a clean air filter can improve your fuel economy up to 10%.
Checking and adjusting your tire pressure to the proper pressure can increase fuel economy by 3%, not to mention preventing premature tire wear and failures or blowouts caused by over or under-inflated tires. Tires can look normal when they are seriously under-inflated. Use a quality air pressure gauge and check your tires when theyre cold, before traveling more than one mile.
Excessive idling wastes fuel. If youre going to be sitting still for more than a couple of minutes shut the engine off.
Using overdrive whenever you can saves fuel by decreasing the engines speed.
Using the cruise control whenever possible saves fuel because it keeps the vehicle at a constant speed rather than variable speeds. This applies when you are driving on a relatively flat surface. Keep in mind the over 60 mph rule applies here too.
Keeping the vehicle tuned up and in top running condition saves fuel. A poorly tuned engine can lower fuel economy by 10 to 20%.
Poor emissions and / or a faulty oxygen sensor can cause a 40% reduction in fuel economy. Can you believe that? A 40% REDUCTION.
Following the recommended service and maintenance schedules will save you fuel.
Using the recommended grade of motor oil will increase fuel economy by 1 to 2%.
Using synthetic oils will increase fuel economy by 2 or more percent.
Speeding and rapid acceleration reduces fuel economy anywhere from 5 to 33% depending on your individual driving habits.
Added weight that you dont need reduces fuel economy significantly. Were all guilty of this one!
Only using the dash air conditioner when it is absolutely necessary will save a significant amount of fuel.
Use regular gas unless your owners manual specifies a higher octane gas. Youre just throwing money away when you pay the extra money for premium fuel.

We may have no control over the prices at the pump, but as you can see we have total control over getting the most out of the fuel we put in our tank.

Pay Per Click - How To Maximise Your Adwords Performance

Making your Adwords adverts highly relevant is one of the most important things you can do to ensure a successful campaign. High relevance leads to high click throughs and as we all know, high click throughs lead to better positioning and a lower cost per click.

Google deliberately keep vague about the algorithms they use to rate the relevance of your Adwords ad and how that then translates into the price you pay, but ultimately all you need to know is that relevance is vitally important. So how do you achieve it?

Here are three vital steps to help you get the best from your Adwords budget.

Step #1. Segmented keyword lists. Too many novice advertisers invest a huge amount of time in building their keyword list, but then dont use them correctly. They use all the latest tools and research to create massive lists of words, phrases and every possible variation under the sun, but then they put all those keywords into one single ad group.

The problem with this is that it is impossible for one single ad group to be relevant to all those words. If you are selling organic food, your keyword list might include such variations as organic vegetables, home grown onions, non genetic produce and so on. There is no way, in the limited space available to you in an Adwords ad that you can have all those words appear.

It is many times more effective to break that huge list down into multiple small lists, each focused around one keyword. In our organic food example, that would mean creating a list based purely around onions, such as organic onions, home-grown onions, non genetic onions and all the variations you can think of. However, now you will have maybe 40 subsets of 30 or 40 words and phrases on each single theme, instead of 800 on multiple themes.

Step #2. Multiple Ad Groups. Next, you will take each of your tightly focused sub lists and create an Ad Group, specifically for that list. Your aim should be to have an advert which can incorporate almost all of the most essential words from that list in its headline and copy. For example, you could write an ad with the headline, Want Organic Onions? and body copy that says Home-grown, non genetic onions, fresh from the organic farm

Why is this important? Because when a searcher types organic onions into the search box, your ad will appear with the words organic and onions bolded, at the right side, high up the page. It will stand out because it contains the exact words our prospect entered. It is a direct connect to his query and the bold text will draw his eye.

The headline Want Organic Onions? rephrases the exact question he had in his mind and is a powerful psychological incentive to click on your ad and not another that says. Fresh produce, grown organically.

Unlike your competition, you will have created another keyword list that uses the phrase grown organically and another that focuses on tomatoes. One for cabbage and one for carrots. One for non genetic and one for non GM and so on.

Step #3. Create ad variations to test and cover all bases. Finally, within each Ad Group you must take full advantage of Googles powerful testing tool; the ability to create ad variations.

Take your first ad in each group and create three variations by changing one simple thing, such as the headline. Our original headline Want Organic Onions? can be varied to make Find Organic Onions, or Organic Onions Online.

The trick is to make small changes and then test them for responses. As soon as one of the three becomes a clear leader, drop the other two and start making small changes to the body copy. If something causes a drop in click through rates, go back to the previous version and try again. It is perfectly possible to increase your ad performance by two or three times, with careful testing.

To recap; the key to high relevance, good page positions and a low cost per click is to create tightly focused keyword lists; build custom ads for each one and finally test, test, test.

It does not matter where you look these days, every mortgage company is offering unbelievable low interest mortgages. Somewhere, somehow, somebody came up with a new loan type that essentially helps those that would no normally afford their piece of the American Dream. Is this the right move for you?

Throughout the ages, the American Dream has always been to own your own home. With the advent of the Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM) this has actually become possible for millions of Americans'. With an attractive introductory low interest rate and even lower payments than a fixed loan, people began to hop on the bandwagon and BAM! a boom in home ownership made these savy mortgage companies millions of dollars virtually overnight. Were you one of those?

ARMs provided all walks of life the opportunity to better themselves. Whether it was used to refinance and get lower monthly payment and get several thousand dollars cash out, or just the prospect of owning your own home; the Adjustable Rate Mortgage was your answer.

With every reward comes risk, and with the Adjustable rate Mortgage came the real prospect that you are risking your credit, along with your most prized possession, your home. Was the risk worth it?

Unlike other general loans, if you miss a payment or two, your interest increases and it hurts your pocketbook a little more as well as your credit rating. If you have watched any news station the past 6 months, you hear all over that house foreclosures are up and over 100,000 homes are in the middle of foreclosures. More than seventy-five percent of these homes are due to Adjustable Rate Mortgages . Are you going to be on that list?

You dont want to loose your home and you know that you cant afford the new payment. Get out of your Adjustable Rate Mortgage now. Take the hit and refinance at a new fixed 30 year loan. If you owe more on your mortgage than your house is worth, find a way to get a separate loan from relatives or other finance sources and get back into a fixed mortgage. It is better to pay now, than pay later and loose your home.

Fishing for Rainbow Trout - The Perfect Hatch - Part 1 - Chironomids

It happens every year, in almost every lake in the Kamloops area but the trick is to time it just right. This year, so far, our timing has been great. Long leaders on dry lines season has begun and the perfect hatch of chironomids has been fished.

It was late in May, just after the Victoria Day weekend in Kamloops area and the weather had been cool and windy but this day the winds were down and the temperature was approaching 20C. It was the perfect set-up. Armaddeus and I ventured up to the Roche Lake area to one of my favorite lakes, Hosli Lake. We hit the water late in the afternoon (4:30)and not much was happening except where 4 boats/float tubes were gathered in deep water off the far shore. Two guys were having a great time while the 2 others were marvelling at the the luck of the others.

We wandered over and quietly anchored in the area. As I looked into the water I could see a deluge of little white heads wiggling their way to the surface. It was spectacular. Thousands of chironimds hatching with very few fish moving at the surface. I knew this could be something special. As it turned out, it was spectacular!

This was not normally a spot on the lake that I would anchor and cast. It was at least 150 ft. from any shoal and 22'-30'deep. Hardly a location for normal flycasting opportunities. But these are chironomids. They lay their eggs in the bottom mud and rise to the occasion every year to hatch as adults.

I set up my #6 dry line, complete with a 21 ft long leader. The guys that were there before us were using a dry line with strike indicator and a wet line just hanging underneath his belly boat. I like the dry line without a strike indicator. My fishing friend, Paul Patterson (The Log Home Shows)taught me how to effectively use this strategy and my success rate improved drastically.

I started out with the dry line and casted out about 50'. I was trying to get my wet line ready but got rudely interupted by the singing of my reel. The 20" rainbow trout had taken the chironomid as it was still dropping. It continued for the next 3 hours. Fish after fish, and real dancers too. Every fish came out of the water at least 3 times.

Since you can use 2 lines while fishing in BC (if you are alone in your boat/tube), I took the opportunity to hook my wet line up and just let it hang below the side of my boat. Luck struck here too. In fact, I was about 3 seconds from a double header as I released one, the other line started singing. Interesting enough, most fish this evening took the fly while it was just hanging or dropping, with less action while retrieving. I ended up with 12 fish, mostly in the 18-20" size with the largest being 21".

We went back 4 days later and the hatch was still on. Apparently the 2 guys that were there the first day we showed up had left that morning and had action all week. Armaddeus and I showed up about 11am and headed back to the same spot. I was quick to throw out my dry line with the long leader. I had let it sit for about 5-6 minutes and started my retrieve. I noted to Armaddeus that it might be slower today...not. First cast, first fish. Actually the fishing was slower this day. It seemed that the trout were a little more selective and they only wanted to hit the fly while I was on the retrieve rather than on the dead hang. 15 fish, the biggest, a perfect specimen, was a whopping 24" (close to 6lbs).

The "perfect hatch" eased off and became sporatic just a couple days later. We had a couple of real good days 2 weeks later but for the most part the mega-hatches of chironomids were done. They will continue to hatch for the rest of the open water season but with less intensity.

Here are a few tips for the learning chironomid fisherman to hold on to when looking for the perfect hatch of chironomids.

1) Mid-May to the first week in June is the most predominant hatch time in the BC Southern Interior. Obviously, lower elevation lakes will come on earlier than higher lakes.

2) When travelling on the water, keep your eyes peeled as to where the chironomids are emerging. Chances are that you will see them coming up from deep water. As we are more conditioned to work shoals and weed beds, this may feel a bit awkward at first. If you can't see the chironomids emerging, look for the birds, particularly the swallows, terns and nighthawks. They will be swarming, diving, circling and even dipping the surface of the water for fresh emergers. The fish shouldn't be far.

3) You may or may not see fish moving where the chironomids are emerging. Lack of fish moving on top doesn't mean that they are not there. It probably means that they are feeding below, closer to the bottom.

4) Rainbow trout will take the chironomids at wherever the best water temperature level is. This would be approximately 55F or 13C. The depth could be anywhere from 4' to 25'. Sunken islands between 10' and 20' deep can be a bonanza. Having a depth sounder / fish finder can be invaluable.

5) I carry at least 2 lines/rods, sometimes 3 - 2 dry lines and one deep sinker. My favorite is to hook one line up with a strike indicator to establish the right depth. Usually we set this to sink and drift with the breeze with the occasional slow retrieve. My second rod will also be the dry line but with a long leader. This line will be casted and let sit for 5 minutes or so before retrieving.

6)The long leader on the dry line without the indicator... 20 feet or more. My success rate with chironomids increased by at least 3X when I finally went to the long leader. It takes patience but it's worth it.

7) Use a weighted fly, on either the dry or wet line(metal/glass - bead heads, usually white but gold or silver can be successful too). Add some small split shot where your tippet is tied to your leader. This will help you get down to your desired depth.

8) Adjust your depths and fly patterns regularly until you start taking fish.

9) Try to match the length of the chironomid with the emergers at the surface.

10) When you do catch one, pump it's stomach for an indication of what the are exactly feeding on. There are plenty of articles on pumping fish, just go to Google and put in: stomach pump + fish. You will find a lot of info. Please take care when handling the fish if you are returning it to the water.

11) Watch the other fishermen. If someone is into fish, get close enough to observe. Strike up a conversation and try to draw some information. Most fishermen will share info willingly, but not all. Be creative upon your approach and don't be too direct or you will not get the information you seek. Your ability at the art of persuasion may determine your quality of information you receive.

12) If the water is really choppy with wind, try using the naked dry line. It reduces the amount of un-natural bobbing movement that waves create on the fly if it is attached to a strike indicator.

13) When using the wet line, a short leader (6'-8ft) is fine. Determine the depth below the boat and drop your line to within 1 foot or so of the bottom. Hands off the rod until you see the tip start moving. Lift up to set the hook and hold on because you are usually in for a wild ride.

14) A real key to fishing chironomids with a dry line and long leader is to keep a sharp eye on the strike indicator or the end of your line. Rainbow trout may hammer the fly or take it slowly and gently slurp it. It you are not paying attention, it's take will go undetected and the fish may spit the fly before you can set it. Make sure that you stretch the leader and line to get the coiling out of the line. It gives you a more direct feel to the fly and the take.

15) Pay attention to the moon phase. Contrary to some material that is marketed, we have found that the fishing is poorest around a full moon or new moon in this area. Most of my fishing buddies would agree. My best fishing seems to be the week before the full moon (within about 3 days of it going full), up to a full week after the full moon and about a week after a new moon. Our recommendation is to keep track of this in a journal and monitor it for consistency. Over time you will get a better feel for the locale of which you are engaging you practise.

Although the big hatches of chironomids in the BC Southern Interior are less frequent, there are and will be many more this year at just about every lake. Chironomids can be fished pretty much all season so work on your technique, use patience and you will be eventually rewarded. Once you experience the perfect hatch you will be forever smitten.

Footnote: Following the above guidelines is no guarantee of success. My regular fishing partner, Armaddeus, has been fishing beside me all spring. He has been fly fishing chironomids for 25 years and has caught his fair share. Thjis year has not been his year. We use the same flies (in fact, one day I was just hammering them on the flies that he tied... while he got zip, nada, nothing). Not even a bite. During the 4 perfect chironomid hatches we have fished this season, he has landed two fish. It must be his stinky fingers. If I were him, I'd change my name.

Commercial Mortgage Disapprovals - Five Major Reasons for Bank Rejections

This article highlights the five primary reasons that banks decline commercial mortgage loan applications. The reasons provided below do not represent obscure issues, so it is likely that two or three of the reasons described will be important for typical commercial mortgage situations. The first two reasons (business plans and tax returns) will potentially impact all commercial borrowers. Many commercial loan officers will start their loan review process by stating some variation of "Can you show me your business plan?" and "We will need to see several years of tax returns".

Commercial projects are frequently too unique for traditional commercial banks. In these situations (even if a commercial borrower has favorable tax returns and an adequate business plan), it is not unusual for commercial borrowers to be declined for a commercial mortgage loan by a traditional commercial lender. Commercial borrowers are likely to be confused when they are turned down and will be unsure as to why it happened and what to do next. For each of the five major reasons that a bank might decline a commercial real estate loan, a practical strategy is provided for converting the declined loan into an approved commercial mortgage.

Reason # 1: A bank's loan officer or loan underwriter is not satisfied that the business plan provided by the commercial borrower supports the requested loan.

Strategy # 1: Most commercial borrowers will benefit directly from dealing with a commercial lender that does not require a business plan due to the following major benefits:

Reduce commercial mortgage costs by thousands of dollars. A common range for an average business plan (prepared to typical bank specifications) is $5,000 to $10,000.
Reduce mortgage closing time by several months. Business plans can be prepared before or after applying for a loan, but either way the net extra time required will probably be 1-2 months or more.
If the lender does not require a business plan, there is one less item standing between the commercial borrower and their approved loan.

Reason # 2: Loan underwriters find something on a tax return that disqualifies a borrower under the bank's lending guidelines. This "something" will frequently be insufficient net income, but when loan underwriters look at tax returns, there are many other possibilities which produce a similar result.

Strategy # 2: Business loan borrowers will never have Reason Number 2 to worry about if they are applying for a "Stated Income" commercial real estate loan. Very few traditional banks use Stated Income (no tax returns, no income verification, no IRS Form 4506) for a commercial mortgage. Commercial borrowers should seek out lenders using Stated Income Commercial Loans. However, this strategy will not work for all commercial mortgages since there is a maximum loan amount of $2-3 million for most Stated Income Commercial Mortgage Programs.

Reason # 3: The bank does not generally make business loans for the type of business involved or imposes special requirements that make the loan impractical for the commercial borrower. Fewer banks are making loans to bar/restaurant properties. Similarly, auto service businesses are frequently given unnecessary (and expensive) environmental reporting requirements. There are many "special purpose" properties such as funeral homes, campgrounds and churches that most traditional banks will not include in their business lending portfolio.

Strategy # 3: For most business borrowers that can get approved at a traditional bank, there are prudent options available elsewhere. And "prudent options" are clearly available only elsewhere when the bank won't make the business loan in the first place! There are very capable commercial lenders that are interested in special purpose properties.

Reason # 4: When a business is refinancing their current commercial mortgage and wants to get a significant amount of cash out for various uses, it is not unusual for the bank to restrict what the funds are used for and to limit the amount of cash to amounts as small as $100,000. Even though the bank might make the loan, if they won't provide the amount of cash needed by the commercial borrower, this is equivalent to declining the loan.

Strategy # 4: As mentioned in Strategy Number 3, there are other options available elsewhere! The commercial borrower's mission (and it is not impossible at all) is to use a commercial real estate lender that will allow them to get much larger amounts of unrestricted cash out of a commercial refinancing without restrictions on what they do with it.

Reason # 5: The bank will not provide a business loan without adequate collateral, usually in the form of a lien on personal assets such as the commercial borrower's home.

Strategy # 5: Commercial mortgage borrowers should seek out lenders that do not "cross collateralize" assets as a condition for obtaining a business loan. This will provide greater flexibility for the commercial borrower and avoid unnecessary (and unwise) connections between personal and business assets.

Making Money from Parked Domains

Let me tell you a true story. A friend of my who likes to collect domain names was describing a few that he had acquired. While he has a wide range of domains in various categories, these particular domains were all related to web hosting.

Some of the domain names were similar to existing web hosting company names (or derivatives of web hosting company names). Others simply had hosting, host, or a related term in the domain itself.

So my friend and I were talking and he said something like, Yeah, its a shame if only I had the time to develop some content for some of these domains then I might make some money form them. It turns out that he had no content on any of the domains just parked pages, or no content at all. When I investigated the domains, it turned out that there was a small but steady traffic stream that visited these domains. Some simply typed in the domain, others apparently found the domain through a search engine that had categorized the parked page.

So I suggested the following to him why not use a service that will take the domain as is with no content whatsoever and suggest search options that generate revenue for each click? He took my advice, grudgingly I might add, and guess what? He made $50 the first month from just a few of his domains.

He was so excited that he asked what he might do to further increase his revenues from his domain names. I suggested that he use his parking pages (these can be customized with some hosts) to test banners from affiliate programs with the highest paying hosting companies. He placed only three banners at the top of his pages with a brief description of the companys product offerings taken straight from their web sites. What is the most important thing you look for when analysing a new system, or a new tipster, and their sets of results?

Do you look for a high strike rate? Perhaps you are looking for a minimum of 30%

Do you look for decent winning prices? Maybe you want an average of at least 3/1

If you dont already, what you should be doing is COMBINING these two benchmarks to see if you are getting VALUE and hence making a profit.

The only way you will make a profit from betting over the long term is if you consistently back horses at prices HIGHER than their actual chance of winning. In other words, when you get a VALUE price.

Equally, you will make money if you consistently lay bets on horses to lose at prices too LOW when compared to their actual chance of winning. This is how bookmakers have made their money for generations.

For example, if you consistently back horses with a 50% chance of winning, but always back at odds better than evens, you will make a profit. If you back 5/1 (chance) horses at prices of 6/1 then you will make a profit over time.

Its obvious really, but too many times people get carried away with strike rates, and "never backing odds-on", when both these benchmarks are irrelevant if price does not also come into the equation.

A strike rate of 50% might seem impressive, but if it is achieved with horses at prices less than evens, you will lose money.

If a tipsters average winning price was 4/5 odds-on, it might on the face of it seem like his tips were very poor value that anyone could pick. But if you learned he had a strike rate of 70% then its a different story. He is getting an average price of 4/5 about horses which should be priced at just 3/7 odds-on.

Prices and strike rates are all relative, and intrinsically linked with VALUE

Common misconceptions are that you cannot make money by backing short-priced horses, or that you only make money by selecting horses at higher prices. Both these theories have an element of truth, but need qualifying further for them to be totally true.

Myth #1 : Short-price horses are always poor value
The horse with the shortest price in a race is the favourite, and we all know that if we blindly backed the favourite in every race we would lose money this is a fact. But the reason we would lose money is because the prices are manipulated by the bookmakers, such that the price of a horse is generally too short compared to its actual chance of winning.

For example, you would expect a horse priced at Even money to win 50% of the time WRONG!! in fact even money chances win only around 44% of the time. This is how bookmakers make their profit.

Let me show you how: The even money horse runs 100 races, and we as punters place our bets each time at even money. We will collect from the bookmaker only 44 times, but 56 times the bookmaker will keep our money.

But short-priced horses can still make you a profit if the price is still too high compared to the chance of the horse winning. For example, a horse at even money is great value if it actually has a 60% chance of winning. You would be getting even money about a horse that should be priced at 4/6

Myth #2 : You can only make a profit by backing higher-priced horses
Of all the horses in a race, the favourite with the shortest price will win the most often fact. So how can we make money by backing horses further down the market, with better prices. Well, the same theory applies as above only back horses at a price higher than their actual chance of winning.

If you decide to only back horses at 10/1 but your system produces a strike rate of 8% then you will lose money. If, however, your strike rate is 12% then you will make a profit.

This is because you are backing horses at 10/1 (11.0) when their actual chance of winning is 12% and represented by a price of 8.33. You are getting a price of 11.0 for something that is actually only worth 8.33 that is why you will profit.

Hopefully you can see that the key to making the profit here, is NOT the 10/1 price alone, nor the 12% strike rate, but getting the two together and achieving VALUE

Higher prices that still do not represent value, will still lead to a loss.

Let me give you an example of how by simply getting a better price about your selections can make the difference between winning and losing money:-

Example One:
Zabenz Won 15/8
Briery Fox Lost 7/4
Fire Dragon Lost 6/4
Warlord Won 2/1
Blazing Guns Lost 9/4
Vicario Lost 13/8
Go On Ahead Lost 2/1
Harrowman Lost 15/8

Example Two:
Zabenz Won 2/1
Briery Fox Lost 15/8
Fire Dragon Lost 13/8

What is the difference between the two sets of results above? The same horses ran in the same races, with the same results. Both sets of results have a strike rate of 30%

The difference is in the prices. Each price has been increased by just one notch.

Lets examine the difference this makes on our return:
In Example One we invest 10 x 100 = 1,000
Our return is 287 + 300 + 375 = 962 so we lose 38

In Example Two we invest the same amount of 1,000
However, our return is now 300 + 325 + 400 = 1,025 so we make a profit of 25
Mathematically, why did we lose money with Example One, yet make a profit with Example Two?

This is why:
In both cases we achieved a strike rate of 30% -- we scored 3 times from 10 attempts -- so our horses had a 30% chance of winning. A 30% chance is represented by a price of 3.33

In Example One the average winning price was the average of 15/8 (2.87), 2/1 (3.00) and 11/4 (3.75) which is 3.21

You can see, we were getting an average price of just 3.21 about horses which should have been priced at 3.33 the price was too low compared to the actual chance of winning, and that is why we lost money over a series of bets.

In Example Two the average winning price was the average of 2/1 (3.00), 9/4 (3.25) and 3/1 (4.00) which is 3.42

You can see, we were getting an average price of 3.42 about horses which should have been priced at 3.33 the price was higher when compared to the actual chance of winning, and that is why we made a profit over a series of bets.

How do you get extra value when placing bets?
1) Know what price you want. You wouldnt go into Tescos and ask for a tin of beans, at whatever price the store wanted to charge.

2) If you cannot get the price you want, then do not bet. If you can learn to accept the disappointment of missing the occasional short-priced winner, than you will never have to suffer the pain of a short-priced loser.

3) Bet on the exchanges. Prices on the exchanges are typically 20% higher than those offered by high street bookmakers. Check out sites such as Betfair, Betdaq, and WBX World Bet Exchange.

4) Post and forget your bets on the exchanges. No more sitting in front of your PC waiting for a price. Post your request for the price YOU want on a betting exchange, and you can walk away knowing that if your price is matched you have gotten a value bet if it isnt matched your bet will be cancelled and your money returned. You are in control of the price, not the bookmaker.

In Summary
The key lesson I want people to learn from this article is to gain the discipline of seeking value in any bets they place. If you find no value, then keep your money safe and watch the race. If you can learn to risk your money only when you have the prospect of a satisfactory return, then you will elevate yourself from 98% of punters who continue to lose money.

Battle of the Bulge in NYC

Fast food chains are fighting a recent New York ruling that says restaurants must put calorie information on their menus. The city has given restaurants until October of this year before they will start handing out fines but it looks like the battle lines are being drawn.

What have you got to hide?

A spokesperson for the fast food industry says the rules, which require calorie content displayed in type at least as large as the price, will create the need for huge menu boards and confuse the customers. I wonder if they are maybe concerned about something else like revealing that a typical burger meal adds up to about 1200 calories in a single sitting.

The industry says that they have made calorie and nutrition information available for a long time, which is true. But putting it 10-clicks deep on your website versus in the face of the customer getting ready to place an indulgent order are two different things.

The American Medical Association is backing up the movement in New York. They are asking all fast food restaurants to add nutrition information to their menus everywhere, not just in the Big Apple (which may find more people eating apples after this law takes hold).

The bottom line is that most people have no idea how many calories they are taking in at their favorite fast food stop. Many single fast food meals contain about enough calories for a whole day but without most of the required nutrition.

The health toll

New estimates from the US government predict that by 2050, when today's elementary school kids are in their mid 40s, we will have 48 million diabetics. Too many trips to the drive through are likely a big factor. Over the past 15 years, we have seen the number of new diabetic cases double per capita.

Diabetes carries with it increased risk of heart disease, blindness, deafness, loss of limbs and all kinds of other stuff you don't want yourself or your kids to deal with. But current trends suggest that 1 out of 3 of today's kids will face these problems. In the small town where I live, we have about 1500 kids in the school district. The British Health System already predicts their own bankruptcy and collapse due to the increases in diabetes. What are we doing to ourselves? Why are we deliberately shooting ourselves in the foot?

Maybe in the next presidential debate we should encourage candidates to spend less time talking about how to pay for health care and more time talking about how to make it less necessary.

I applaud the movement in New York. I hope that eventually the mega fast food companies will come around to provide us with healthier food that can sustain us well into our old age instead of driving us into and early grave. Vote with your dollars and eventually you will get what you want.

The Iraq Solution - The Truth That Both Sides Are Too Afraid To Admit

For many months the Prometheus Institute has been silent as to the most controversial international American conflict since the Vietnam War - the War in Iraq. The war is now so broad in its military, political and social undertaking that it made Bill Clinton's foray into Serbia look like a wine-and-cheese European holiday weekend. We have been silent in this matter because the War in Iraq is so layered and intricate that we simply did not have the historical perspective to accurately assess possible solutions to this, America's latest foreign invasion.

Like most Americans, several extremely difficult questions faced us: Should we continue a war which has no conceivable ending point? Was the wareven justifiable to be begin with? Would it now be wiser to promptly admit defeat and withdraw our troops? Will the legacy of America in Iraq be creating a smoldering land mass and thirty rival factions competing for an unseated throne, or will it be creating ablissful republic with the ability to support its people with the infrastructure it so desperately needs? Most importantly, will the Americanization of Iraq actually result in less terrorist activity, as we are so told?

The Trap

Let's take a brief look back to the start of this tangled mess. We were originally led to believe that the reason for the war was linked to indisputable evidence, confirmed by multiple intelligence agencies, regarding the stockpiling of biological and nuclear weapons by Saddam Hussein. The president then corraled Congress to tacitly approve a War in Iraq with no clear timetable or exit strategy and a vaguely outlined mission that centered around capturing presumed "Weapons of Mass Destruction."

Three years later, the nonexistent "WMDs" became a buzzword in the English lexicon. They failed to surface in Iraq, and Saddam now admits he never even had them. In order to save face, the strategy of the war took on an entirely new agenda: to dismantle the existing Iraqi dictatorship and replace it with good ol' fashioned American democracy. This new democracy, it was argued, would help to stabilize the Middle East, therefore assisting American security.

Unfortunately, none of the rosy predictions are coming true. Recent government reports have concluded that the war is encouraging new terrorist recruits, among other dangerous developments. Politicians on both sides of the aisle are labelling the entire venture a failure.

US citizens still remain anxious for some sort of victory, despite the shifting rationale, but the problem is getting worse and worse. The outcries at the lack of progress are finding a sympathetic ear in the Democrats, who will trot into the mid-term elections and ease into their victory lab with a Democratic holding the keys to the White House in 2008.

The President's new goal

Meanwhile, neither party seems to have a good answer as to exactly why we are losing this war or what we can do to win it. The President himself admits he has no idea when the war will end. But he does have a (vague) criterion for a withdrawal, specifically an Iraqi nation that can "sustain itself, govern itself, and defend itself."

This is an incredibly optimistic goal when we consider the great amount of trouble that our own country has had completing these same tasks for ourselves. We should be mindful that our country has a democratic head-start of well over two centuries over the Iraqis. And unlike the American revolution, the Iraqi democratization was not initiated by the people themselves.

The Bush Administration's goal of spreading democracy is extremely questionable. Democracy recently applied in Palestine, for example, ended up in the sweeping election of Hamas, a terrorist organization.

Democracy, a lot like the free market, works well in rational, peaceful, and wealthy countries, but not so well in poor, backward, and fanatical ones. There is no "transformative" effect of democracy, either. Democracy doesn't make zealots rational - it just makes them able to elect zealots to positions of power.

Now America stands at the proverbial crossroads. The is question is whether we believe in this alleged power of democracy and thus continue the unpopular imposition of the supposedly universally-loved state structure, or admit defeat and fly our boys back home as quick as possible. Or is there still a middle ground?

It is the Institute's opinion that although the war was once justified on the presumed existence of dangerous weapons of mass destruction, these noble goals have been abandoned in an improvident current prosecution of "The War on Terror."

In our opinion, the War on Terrorism should not be about rebuilding countries. The inability of America to offensively colonize other countries has always been painfully clear even since our failed invasion(s) of Canada in the Revolutionary War. The leaders of our country have failed to learn from the lessons of the past. As supported by our roles in the Spanish-American War, World Wars I & II and Desert Storm, our rate of success is far better when we are serving a protective role rather than an aggressive one.

Since we already captured Saddam, murdered his sons, and have no hope to find the WMDs, we have ended any possible national threat and thus have no more legitimate governmental interest in Iraq. We must immediately find the quickest way to leave Iraq without precipitating a civil war - not continue to seek an imposition of democracy that is neither desired, efficient, or beneficial for either country.

What everyone else is too afraid to say

There is a specter over Iraq which almost everyone in the media and this government knows on some level, yet all parties avoid addressing it publicly. It is the cause for the current disharmony and it will surely be the cause for skirmishes in the future. The specter I speak of is the fundamentalist interpretation of the Koran and the damage it causes in the minds of men.

Most interpretations of the Koran are positive, life giving, peace offering, and humble in scope. However, when the Koran is twisted by power-hungry and often times evil people, it can turn a prosperous and peaceful society into a hate-filled locus of oppression.

It is an exercise in insanity to give political power to passionately religious people who are taught that the Koran militates against precisely the type of political changes and social conventions the US wishes to bring them. To many citizens of Iraq, whether Sunni or Shia or in between, the West is the designated spokesman for the devil. The goal of the war should not be to trust these people with democracy.

Fundamentalist Islam has no capacity to adopt any effective form of democratic government, period, and in no situation should this acidic ideology be encouraged to gain power. Not even the most elementary assumptions of the nature of man nor theories of effective government can reconciled with the new breed of uncompromising Islam.

It is suicide at worst and perilous at best to assume Iraq is capable of adopting a fully functional democratic government without radically endangering the lives of every single citizen in the country, every country in the region, and even the United States. The daily slaughter of Iraqis by Iraqis of opposing Islamic sects is all the evidence America should need to be persuaded of the inadvisability of Iraqi democracy. What if the Iraqis have a peaceful plebiscite and they, like Hamas, vote terrorists into office? Or, like Iran, elect an anti-Semitic, anti-Western demagogue bent on nuclear weapons? Each major Iraqi sect seems to have as its primary goal the obliteration of the other Iraqi sects; these sentiments should not be given democratic legitimacy. The Bush Administration's policy, in the end, has the end effect of bringing international political legitimacy to the very same groups we are trying to eradicate.

The solution to the Iraq predicament

The only viable solution in the opinion of this organization is to install in Iraq a moderate Muslim potentate who can effectively limit, with a strong centralized force (and perhaps decentralized provincial decision-making), sectarian conflict and radical fundamentalism. This example is given by the more "moderate" Islamic states, including Turkey, Egypt, and Kuwait, who subdue terrorists while piously imposing sharia-inspired law and order.

America should concede Iraq a theocratic governmental structure that substantially limits democracy. This is the best option to preserve stability and facilitate quick withdrawal. The Iraqi constitution should provide as much provincial/ethnic independence as necessary to avert full-scale civil war, and the military should continue to be trained as much as necessary to keep the government in power. All aid should be given to this fledgling nation contingent upon the continuing prosecution of Islamic extremists.

America should abandon the attempt to impose democracy on Iraq. The Iraqi government should be relatively responsive to public sentiment and concerns but it should retain the absolute strength and authority to quash terrorists and other dangerous sectarian killers. The Iraqis already resent the American-led governmental creation, and so it is foolish to allow them to elect their resentment into power. If the Iraqis' own government is a permanently installed reminder of US dominance, future revolution (and a worse political mess for which the US would be liable) is guaranteed.

It is an uncomfortable reality of Middle Eastern politics that a powerful state (see Saddam's Iraq, Afghanistan under the Taliban) is much more conducive to relative peace and stability than democracy. America's Iraq policy should heed this lesson. The War on Terrorism is supposed to be pursuing this peace and stability, not facilitating the popular election of the very Islamofascists who wish to kill us.

Perhaps through years of peace and education, the sons and daughters of the current Iraqi insurgents will be more tolerant in their religious attitudes. Perhaps then, possibly hundreds of years from now, they will realize the benefits of a liberal republic and the secular system which has brought so much value to the United States. Until that day, however, it is foolish to force a democracy on the Iraqi citizens without the impact severely harming the United States.

America must respect human nature. We should allow the Iraqis to deliver themselves a tolerant and peaceful government whenever they choose to do it themselves, and when it will not elect killers. It is the most obvious point of all: a people who truly desire a democratic government should be creating it themselves. In the meantime, American soldiers should not be dying in order to put Muqtada al-Sadr on a ballot.

All of these baby names have since waned, to be replaced, by the 1980s, with fancier names such as Jennifer, Jessica and Nicole. When I was a children's librarian in the 1980s my preschool storyhours were populated with little girls named Lauren and Jenny, and little boys named Alex and Matthew.

More recently there's been a lot of renewed interest in more "old-fashioned" baby names like Hannah, Abigail and Ethan, plus many Biblical names such as Sarah, Rachel, Joshua, Jacob, and Samuel. There's also been a surge in nontraditional baby names including Madison, Ashley and Brianna for baby girls, and Brandon and Logan for baby boys.

It's interesting to consider the whys and wherefores of such developments. Sometimes, I suspect, the popularity of a specific actor or fictional character might result in many babies with a particular name. For example, were some of the Lauras born in the 1970s and 1980s given a name suggested by older brothers and sisters who were growing up watching "Little House on the Prairie ?" Were some attributable to the super popular Laura of "General Hospital" fame ?

Today Madison is a very highly ranked baby name for girls (ranking number 3 in 2003) but, when the film "Splash" came out in 1984, Tom Hanks' character told Daryl Hannah's character that Madison was not a bona fide first name.

While baby girls' names seem quite subject to the whims of fashion and the top ten lists can change radically over time, I've noticed that, in general, the top baby names for boys remain far more stable. Names like John, William and James are perennials, perhaps because baby boys are often named for their fathers, perpetuating the popularity of certain baby names from generation to generation. The "Junior" factor aside, baby boys are also less apt to be given fanciful names.

A comparison of the changing fortunes of my own first name, Barbara, with those of my husband's name, Robert, gives a good illustration of the difference in stability between baby girl names and baby boy names over time.

My name grew in popularity in the 1930s, '40s and '50s, peaking at the number 2 position in baby name popularity, which it tenaciously held from 1937 to 1944. When I attended grad school, of a class of approximately forty students, there were no less than three baby boomers named Barbara. Should I thank the actress Barbara Stanwyck for this? Alas, my first name later suffered a slow, steady decline and placed at a pitiful number 628 position on the baby names popularity list for the U.S. in 2003.

Robert, on the other hand, has survived the vicissitudes of baby name popularity. It held a coveted spot on the top ten most popular baby names list every year from 1896 to the late 1980s, often peaking at number 1 between the 1920s and the 1950s. It has gradually slipped since the 1990s, but still managed to hold the respectable slot of number 35 in 2003.

When naming a baby there are, of course, many other points to consider besides how popular or unique a name is. Here are some helpful tips that you can use with your other children to get them involved in choosing a name for the new baby and to make the process fun:

1. Baby names need to go nicely with the sound of your last name. Also, pick a first name and a middle name that go together well. (So maybe not something like Erasmus Beelzebub Smith!)

2. When your family finds a name you all like, look at the initials to be sure that you don't give the new baby a name with initials that will make people laugh. (So maybe not Pamela Iris Green, which equals P.I.G.!)

3. You might not want a baby name that is so unusual that the other kids will make fun of your little brother or sister as he or she grows up. (So maybe not Rosebud or Molasses!)

4. You also might not want a baby name that is so trendy that it will sound funny by the time the baby is ten years old. (So maybe not Sunshine!)

5. You probably shouldn't pick a name that's really cute for an adorable little baby but will sound silly when the baby grows up. (So maybe not Dimples!)

6. Avoid baby names that might produce insulting nicknames when people shorten them. (So maybe not Smellonius, or Smelly for short!)

7. You and your family might not want a name that is so hard to spell or to pronounce that people will always get it wrong and your poor little brother or sister will have to go through life correcting people. (So maybe not something like Incandescence, or is it Incandessints? )

8. You and your family might want to pick baby names in honor of favorite relatives or ancestors, or special names that show your family's ethnic roots. You might even find a special name from a book or movie that you love. (Like Harry?)

9. You might want to look through books of baby names and pick one that has a special meaning that you like - maybe something that means "sweet" or "kind" or "brave." (So maybe not wimp!)

10. You might want to think about names that will go nicely with your name and your other brothers' and sisters' names, so that if mom or dad are calling you all for dinner or signing a birthday card to grandma it won't sound too crazy. (So maybe not "Happy Birthday, Grandma! Love, Joey, Cindy and Dweevo!")

Trust in a Large Coorporation

In case you haven't seen the news, three Coca Cola employees attempted to sell the formula for an up-and-coming drinkto the Atlanta-based company's rival, Pepsi. The blogs are popping with the subject; a simple search will show you what I mean. However, I think Jeremy at Ipkat nailed the crux with his blog, It's Not Secret, Silly. I quote: (H)ow silly to try to steal product secrets - the real treasure is the Coca-Cola brand itself. Anyone with access to a reasonable laboratory can analyse and replicate Coke's products, but the brand is literally irreplaceable. That is, it's the brand that sells the product, not the product itself (a fact you could actually question when you look at 'new Coke' and other flops). But the point is, we buy the soda because it's Coke, not the store brand.

This is a classic example of what happens when you have the wrong people on the bus. For whatever reasons - and I suspect greed, pure and simple - the three 'alleged' criminals were ready to stab Coke in the back. It was obvious that they had no vested interest in the company and the success of the new product. Perhaps they were scared that the next round of layoffs would cut them from the budget (or they would lose some of their perks). Understand, this does not justify their criminal behavior (should I say, 'alleged criminal behavior'?). It doesn't even make me feel sorry for them. But it is a simple case of lack of loyalty, which created a lack of trust.

What could Coke do to prevent the problem? And, more importantly, what can it do in the future? I work for a small business, so I am not best fit to give guidelines to large coorporations. However, once again, I humbly suggest Jim Collins' book Good to Great for ideas on building a successful company - which includes creating company loyalty.

Some things we can take from that include:

-remembering that our employees are important. In a radio interview with Dave Ramsey some months back, a Nucor Steel executive noted that "we wouldn't be here without our employees." Yes, customers are important. But if you don't have employees - good employees - then you have to serve them all yourself. Eventually, you won't be able to do that.

-giving your employees vested interest in your company's success. I'm not talking about rides on the private jet, or whathaveyou. Again, remembering Nucor (I was quite impressed by the interview), the executive noted that employees were given production-based bonuses. In short, the compensation was based on how much the emplyees produced, giving them incentive to work harder.

-adding praise and recognition to the mix. I'm not talking about false praise or overdone flattery. Nor would I dare suggest trying to make words alone cover everything - though they will go a long way, even further than money alone. But giving a 'well done' after a difficult process or problem solving, or a compliment on consistant good work can go further than you might think.

The best mix, of course, would be to stir these up together, along with a few other ingredients from the book. And trust cannot be given; it has to be earned. The employee has a responsibility to earn it by, say, not stealing company secrets. But the better work environment we create, the less likely we'll be to have employees selling our trade secrets in another fifty or sixty years.

Basic Principles For Designing Your Dream House

Before setting your mind on a particular choice of plan or architectural design, take the time to read through the following pointers as set out below, subsequently you will be able to make a more knowledgeable decision in plan design & style choice.

SIZE

The size of the proposed house will often be determined by budget for most 1st time builders in South Africa but other factors will also play a big role. Local municipalities will always stipulate a certain coverage and height restriction for a site in a particular area. Read through your title deed for possible servitudes (areas as set out by the municipality for other uses eg. Electrical or sewerage services) or other restrictions before planning is started as these might also greatly reduce buildable area on your erf.

Take a look at the following typical example:

You have just bought a lovely stand at the coast with a great view towards the sea. The size of the stand is 600sqm (20m X 30m) with a 3m building line all around. You contact the local authority or estate architect and find out that only a 40% coverage is allowed for this stand and that the 1st floor may only be 30% of the groudfloor area to not restrict sea views for the neighbouring houses.

You might be surprised how limited your building area has become with the above parameters: The stands building area is reduced to 336sqm by the building line alone, furthermore the coverage only allows for a 240sqm max. building footprint with a 72sqm upper floor. Therefore the building limit for this stand would be 312sqm.

The above example might seem irrelevant, but often other factors eg. Orientation of the site might further difficult the situation.

FUTURE EXTENSION

Are you planning to have more children? Do you have ageing parents that might require a living unit on your property? You might be retiring in a couple of years and may feel the need to provide space for a hobby area / workshop / library that you envisage for the future. You could also be planning to start your own home based business in the future and might need extension space to your home at that time.

According to statistics, South Africans typically stay in a house for apprx. 7 years and might move around more that other established countries, but often families become comfortable with their current accommodation and find it less troublesome to extend to their existing house than moving to a new bigger house. With the above in mind, you might want to plan your new proposed house to be able to accommodate possible future extension.

SIZE OF YOUR EXISTING FURNITURE

Make sure that the planned room sizes will be able to accommodate your existing furniture. You might own huge antiques or double beds for all the bedrooms. With the always rising building costs secondary bedrooms are often designed to only accommodate a single bed. You might also want to take time to carefully consider the size of the garage. A standard double garage is considered to be 6x6m but doesnt leave any space for storage or perhaps a DIY-corner especially if you own large vehicles.

ORIENTATION

Often the shape of the site and/or possible views has a huge effect on the placement of the building, but keep the following in mind before before putting pen to paper:

Minimize west facing window openings as far as possible , rooms facing west can really become uninhabitable during the late afternoon until early evening. Also western sun can be very destructive for curtains, furniture etc. Try to minimize east facing bedrooms also unless you are an early riser, as the sun can wake one up a lot sooner than was planned. Often residences on the eastern coast of the country have views toward the east thus too many east facing bedrooms has to be considered carefully. The perfect orientation in SA for all habitable rooms in a house is 10 degrees east of north to minimize the heat in summer and in the cold winter months when the sun is lower creates less shadows and more heat radiation in the habitable rooms.

When planning the positioning of your house on the site, the position of sewer connection should be kept in mind Try to keep sewer line lengths to a minimum. The garages should also be planned close to the site entrance to keep the driveway area to a minimum to keep paving costs down. (Most local authorities do however require a minimum of 6m driveway for visitor vehicle stacking)

SHAPE OF HOUSE

Shape of house Take into account that the more complex (many corners) the plan the more the cost, also a square shape is more cost effective than a long rectangle, for example if you build a square house of 10x10m (100sqm) the total brick perimeter would be 40m, however if you build a 100sqm rectangular house of say 5x20m, the external envelope will be 50m in perimeter. The above is exaggerated, but illustrates the idea.

Try to keep away from excessive curves in the design of the external envelope, in particular when building a conventional roof and not a thatch or concrete roof, as this might require building unnecessary extra roof ridges and breaking up of roof tiles to accommodate this. It will often be a nightmare to build you might have a lot of waterproofing issues.

If the plan of the design is very complex, it might also require building unnecessary parapet walls to accommodate the roof structure which leads to extra flashing (more potential for leakage)

If you live in very windy conditions eg. The False bay area in the Cape, you should consider building the shape not to catch the wind but with its back to it.

ARCHITECTURAL STYLE

a Lot of themed estates have been rising up all over the country for a number of reasons. If you have bought into one of these estates, you should obtain a copy of the Aesthetic committees rules and regulations regarding the allowed architectural styles as they often have a strict architectural theme that owners must adhere to.

Roofing
The architectural style of a house often bring about many variances of roof design. Concrete roofs (Contemporary styles) typically has no eaves overhang and is not optimal for our countrys generally sunny conditions and rooms could often be very hot as the sun heats a larger portion of a rooms floor area which is retained and make the homes ambient temperature a lot warmer.

The Tuscan look as adopted by South Africans around the country, also characteristically features very small eaves roof overhangs, which again is not favourable for sunny conditions for the same reason as mentioned above, what makes it even worse than that of a concrete roof is the weather proofing of this way of roof design. Driving rain can cause moisture to easily, and do, creep in below the eaves and create moisture leakage into the building. You might have a lot of stained ceilings within a years time.

If you are fond of this look, consider having larger overhangs which can be done without compromising this style Thatch roofing can be quite a bit more expensive that conventional roofing but allows for a great cool atmosphere within such a building perfect for South Africas sunny conditions.

Gable walled architecture where the gable extends past the roof are often considered to be very attractive, but keep in mind that the roofs will have to be flashed at all the gables and if not done properly has an increased chance of water leakage into the house.

Windows & Doors

Consider the size of the window openings. Windows can be wood, steel, aluminium, top-hung, side-hung, sliding etc. in the end the style of the house will mostly influence the type of window but if unsure about sizing of openings refer back to the orientation section earlier. The NBR specifies a daylight opening of at least 10% of the floor area of a room Where possible always try to create as much cross ventilation to habitable rooms as possible.

Where doors face towards the west, consider the maintenance and material of these. In windy conditions, try to keep doors screened from the prevailing wind side especially large leafed swing doors. Folding & stacking doors are great to enhance the living towards the outdoor feeling and for ventilation, but keep the width of these to a minimum as problems with the sliding gear often arise when the spans are too vast.

When using sliding doors or folding & stacking doors in bedrooms, make sure to include a window in the room no matter what the size of the door opening, as you might want to lock these doors at night time for security or other reasons and still have ventilation into the room. Often designers create doors the whole length of the exterior wall of a room and this gets overlooked.

Walls
Walls can be facebrick, plastered, stone walls, stone cladded, wooden logs, tiled, aluminium panel cladded etc. When considering the above always keep in mind the time and costs of maintenance and the construction cost. For example: Plastered walls might require painting every 3-6 years but could cost significantly less to construct that a facebrick wall which requires virtually no maintenance. Also keep in mind, that a plastered building could be livened up after a couple of years by painting it another colour to give the house a fresh look, with most other wall finishes you will not have the opportunity to provide the house with a fresh look at the same low cost.

When deciding upon a particular architectural style, consider the materials that typically accompany that style. Factors that may influence your decision:

Before my daughter Michele began attending school, a lady who was babysitting her noticed things she did (or didn't do) that weren't quite right developmentally.

We were fortunate in that the babysitter had had training in early childhood education, and she would work with Michele and her son to help them develop appropriate pre-school skills. She became concerned that Michele struggled with learning her alphabet and her numbers. Her small motor skills - things like using scissors and coloring - weren't up to par. She would overreact to many situations, and she didn't understand jokes because she didn't understand words with different meanings.

We weren't surprised when she was recommended in first grade to be evaluated for a learning disability.

I have taught hundreds of children with learning disabilities, and all of them had different combinations of signs. Some of the younger children just couldn't remember what sound(s) each letter or combination of letters made. Some couldn't figure out what certain numbers added up to, or they couldn't remember their subtraction, multiplication, or division facts, even though they tried and tried to memorize them.

Many of the kids, both younger and older, like Michele, could read words on a page very well, but they had difficulty understanding what they read. Then there were others who had to have help reading the words, but once they read them, they had no trouble understanding. There were some who were great readers and writers, but they had an awful time with Math, and there were some who could do math better than I could, but they had a terrible time with reading.

One thing a majority of them struggled with was organizational skills. They were always losing things - notebooks, pencils, coats, assignments, anything they could possibly lose. Their lockers looked like tornadoes had gone through them. And I heard from the parents that their bedrooms were the same story.

Too many of the students I taught tried to avoid reading and writing because it was so difficult for them. It was a common practice for me to help them read tests because they 1) couldn't read the words, or 2) didn't understand either the question or the multiple choice answers they were given.

Taking notes was always difficult for Michele. She couldn't get the notes from the chalkboard, overhead, or even her textbook onto her paper. She had to have help in her classrooms so she could work around this problem.

Starting from the top of your body, the first thing well look at is the neck. The main muscle in the neck is called the upper trapezius and reaches from the base of the neck to the shoulder. The other main muscle in the neck is called the levator scapulae and attaches itself to the cervical vertebrae in the neck.

Next we have the trapezius muscles which run from the neck down to the waist area. Many people refer to these as the trap muscles. There are also major muscle groups in the shoulder called the deltoid muscles.

The pectoral muscles are located in the chest area and most often referred to as the pecs. These are often the muscles bodybuilders like to flex on the beach! These go great with large bicep muscles which are at the front of the upper arm between the shoulder and the elbow. At the back of the arm running down the same length are the tricep muscles. These two muscles are often the ones bodybuilders spend a lot of time training.

Moving around to the stomach area, we have the abdominal muscles or the abs. This is a large group of muscles which require quite a lot of training to help you achieve the perfect six pack. Down to the legs we have the quadriceps or the quads as they are more often referred as. These are at the upper of the leg between the hips and the knee. These are basically the thigh area. Squats are a great method of building up your quads.

"The Nazis are coming! The Nazis are coming!" are what Toledo, Ohio's media were hyping all week about the National Socialist Movement's planned march in Toledo to protest black gang violence against whites in Toledo's North End.

Instead of wisely turning their backs on such a controversial demonstration, refusing to throw fuel on the fire and attract undue attention, Toledo blacks gave Bill White's best sermon. He couldn't have done a better job as a spokesman for the NSM. Such useful idiots proved the points he would have wanted to make and it made international news.

During the drama being played out on the stage of the streets, Toledo's miserable black Mayor Jack Ford was in denial of what he was watching. He said it wasn't a riot, "It's a group of folks who are angry," according to The Blade reporter Roberta De Boer. When was a riot ever quiet? Doesn't he know riots are angry mobs gone mad? When his fellow blacks angrily reminded him, "Ford, you're black! You're supposed to be one of us!" - it appeared to confirm disturbing reports of Toledo police concerns that the black community's criminal element share the belief that they can get away with murder since Toledo has a black mayor.

Different enraged folk asked "Why did you allow them to be here?" It really makes you wonder if they've ever heard of freedom of speech. They can't all have dropped out of school. I certainly hope those who are still in school are made to shut up, sit down and learn all about it in the coming days and weeks.

All we've been hearing from the mayor so far, and various "leaders," are excuses, excuses, excuses! The police admit they could've arrested far more than they did, but they didn't. What about cracking down on crime? Is that just another mindless mantra to chant around election time? The soft message the Toledo police sent was the wrong signal and invites further aggression in the future, here and elsewhere plagued with the same inner-city problems of roaming black packs, gangs of goons, drugs, prostitution, racial tensions ready to explode with the slightest provocation real or imagined. Many were outraged that they were "disrespected" by such a Nazi march through their neighborhood (that never went forward anyway). They disrespected themselves with their shameful reaction, showing lack of self-control, logic and reason.

Lee Conklin and Company, a local television Sunday show, this morning had several stereotypical liberal Jews and blacks on it (couldn't he have thought about it beforehand and chose others?) already talking about rewarding such terrorism by throwing money at it, building community (collective) centers for the children ("children" who have nothing better to do than riot) and obviously failing to take notice that the vast majority of those arrested were BLACK ADULTS!

A black woman preacher (doesn't know her Bible too well since women aren't supposed to be preachers) who could barely speak English, thought things would calm down since the religious leaders undoubtedly would be addressing this incident from their pulpits (doesn't she know that most of those gang members will not be going to Church this Sunday or any Sunday or even on the correct Sabbath day?). There was lots of talk about "let the healing begin" and other nonsense, refusing to face the harsh reality that THE BLACK BOIL NEEDS TO BE LANCED! Only then can the healing begin! The group hugs mentality and touchy-feely stupidity are worthless in addressing the issues that must be faced.

When will those self-righteous ministers standing tall and looking serious for the cameras (when they should be shrinking in shame), those smug "rainbow" coalition of kooks, get serious and confront the lack of law and order in the black community? When will they CALL FOR AND DEMAND OF THEMSELVES AN END TO IDLENESS AND SLEAZE that leads to disproportionate illegitimate children, immorality, STD's, drug dealing, glorification of crime, high school drop-outs and other such lack of proper content of character that Martin Luther King wouldn't be proud of? Why abdicate this responsibility to the "Klan with a tan," the racist Nation of Islam?

If the black community wants some respect (sing it Aretha!), let them start with a proper self-respect and they'll get it. They certainly won't get it by continuing to let real racists excuse their inexcuable behavior, lower the standards for them, keep them down and out to get their votes or to pay for their gilded pulpit.

Enterprise Agility: Jazz In The Factory

Listening to seasoned musicians play jazz can be a rewarding experience. Even if we are not jazz enthusiasts, we can appreciate the talent that becomes quickly evident, as melodies are created in a seemingly spontaneous fashion, but with notes flying together in an underlying theme.

What isn't evident, is what's behind this top-level performance. There certainly is obvious physical dexterity -- the ability to produce what is required upon demand. But, playing good jazz requires agility as well as ability -- the innovativeness to continually introduce new ideas in response to the mood created by the notes just played. Each phrase has to be linked with the next for continuity. There must be integration of thoughts and ideas.

The best excitement is created when teams of musicians improvise to create new harmonies. The players have mastered the rudiments, become very dexterous, agile and adroit, and trained themselves to be spontaneous. In their terms, they "cook."

Take away these ingredients and the players get clumsy, stumble in execution and produce bad results. The music becomes stale and the listener grows disinterested. What's the consequence? .......Losing the audience.

What does this have to do with manufacturing?

How do we compare today with that new standard? We have spaghetti factory flows, poor interaction between functional departments, physical walls, classes of workers, poorly integrated information systems, and component factories separated from assembly by states and, sometimes, continents.

As a result, we find ourselves clumsy in moving parts across the factory floor, stale or too slow with introducing new products to respond to market demand, stumbling in execution of production, and severe quality problems. What's the consequence? Losing business.

Jazz in the Factory

How can we tune ourselves to be top performers in the next decade We must start with the fundamentals, the rudiments. Any organization, just as in a jazz group, is only as good as its weakest player. As individual skills are raised, so is the performance of the organizational unit. We must be ready and skilled in physical movement. Physical dexterity is paramount in the hands of a classical pianist, a jazz saxophonist, and in the production cycle.

We must remove the obstacles that prevent us from manufacturing with high velocity -- our set-ups, the excessive material handling, our poor physical flow, and all production interruptions. We must streamline the physical flow, integrate our processes and close the distances between supply, production, assembly, distribution, and our end customer. The emphasis must be on quickly satisfying the service chain of events from the time a customer needs something until he is satisfied.

Being Innovative

We must be adroit in introducing new products and quick in getting them to the market to satisfy demand. We must create a dynamic integrated environment where people can work together in generating and sharing thoughts. Just as a jazz musician is free to choose his notes, in business there must be built-in flexibility to allow members to explore, and be creative.

Fostering innovation, among many other things, requires good organization of information. Our current systems and procedures have been developed at length to control an unwieldy information channel. Our functional organizations are stifling; natural and functional conflicts create internal adverse relationships that prevent the sharing of ideas.

Only when we get past the stifling paper flow, disparate computer systems, and functional organizational walls, will the homogeneity of ideas begin to generate at a fast pace. Linking computers is part of the answer, but it's also streamlining the information flow, and consolidating the knowledge of the idea producers. We need to organize for ease of sharing information for innovation.

Playing in Harmony

Having the ability to produce spontaneously upon demand requires an organization that is quick and resourceful. It requires short lines of communication, and velocity throughout the work chain. This means not only being able to enact the physical events swiftly, but also completing the business cycles quickly.

A jazz stage band keeps good time by closing physical proximity between players. This is so there is a minimum of delay in hearing the rhythm. In business, close proximity is critical to producing velocity. Each element of a business cycle must be linked with the next for continuity.

Every member must be in tune with the overall needs of the market, and close enough to one another to be spontaneous in helping each other support the common mission -- serving the customer. Team play is a basic necessity to produce the results required to be competitive in the next decade.

When a manufacturing company becomes physically dexterous in the factory, organized to be adroit and innovative throughout, and its members work in concert toward a common theme of satisfying the requirements of a dynamic market, it will be a world-class competitor, it will possess enterprise agility, and that's when it will "cook."

The Harmonic

In a good history book by a leading light in the field of history, I recall Michael Grant saying Pythagoras was weird. This book is The Rise of the Greeks and he does almost admit he is not qualified to judge the great sage, which is more than many academics will allow. None of us should expect he could judge bi-location or the musical octaves and their connection to the Singing of the Spheres. However, it would be nice to see these researchers (are not historians supposed to research?) ask people who are knowledgeable about alchemy and present their opinion if they are willing to call Pythagoras weird. Much of what Pythagoras learned from the Great Pyramid and in his healing of people was involved with harmonics and the pentagon-dodecahedron that understands the Earth Energy Grid. He is not the only person who used these secret knowledge systems. The re-routing of the river by the followers of Pythagoras (in Croton/Bruttium, Italy) may have had something to do with this secret knowledge. This was almost considered a legend until recent archaeologic digs found the site of Sybaris, which was aligned on the side of Etruria against the Bruttii and other Kelts of the north. This important point in history led to the creation of a Roman Empire and Rome itself. So much for the statements of Masons, who say they are Pythagoreans and teach his Golden Section, yet maintain they are not political.

In discussing the harmonics of Omega stations placed around the planet by the United States, Bruce Cathie writes in The Earth Energy Grid:

It at once became obvious that the position was an ideal one. The station fitted on to the grid as though one had been tailor-made for the other (see map). I produced the grid map years before Omega was ever heard of, and I have no claims to being clairvoyant. It can be no accident that the site fits in so neatly with the grid system; Im certain that the station was planned years ago by those in charge of the earth-bound project to explore the grid system.

When will they let us in on the secret? (12)

TArk of the Covenant was an arc transmitter developed for the purpose of making maps of the whole world and an ancient Morse code system. The Hadji Ahmed map from over 12,500 years ago may not be the best proof but you should know about it (I do think it has parts that are the ancient secrets of the North American traders but is weak in other areas.). It shows the Bering Land Bridge as it was and yet we didnt know this until 1958. It has been around for 500 years or so and is traced from earlier maps. Given the receptivity of quartz on sceptres in electrical storms I can easily see the piezo electric flashes therefrom would have led to what the engineers can reconstruct using the Bible as their guide. Such harmonic or etheric events would have been great magic in the distant reaches of human cultural evolution. The Field Theory of Faraday and Tesla is a verdant open and welcoming minefield for science to explore today. Cathie deals with a little of Tesla in the next work that is also researchable in Christopher Dunns book titled Giza Power Plant.

The whole system acted as a gigantic electrical pump, and enabled Tesla to cause massive discharges of energy to oscillate between the earth and the surrounding atmosphere. During his experiments with this fantastic piece of equipment he caused bolts of lightning to issue forth from the copper ball {Numa had electrical devices in Roman times that are in the British Museum} into the air, and manmade thunder to scare the living daylights out of the populace for miles around. He finally succeeded in burning out the generating plant at Colorado Springs due to electrical overload placed upon it. This did not, of course, make him too popular with the local council, and he had to carry out extensive repairs to the plant before he was able to continue with his work.

He discovered that a rate of 150,000 oscillations a second, which produced electrical pulsations with a wavelength of 2000 metres, was necessary to produce the effects he required in the transmission of usable power through the earth.

If we convert the wavelength of 2000 metres to a minute of arc, or nautical mile equivalent on the earths surface the result is 1.0792237. The experimental value was therefore very close to 1.08 minutes of arc, or one twenty thousandth of the circumference of the earth, 21600 minutes divided by 1.08.

The exact number of cycles to obtain a 1.08 minute wavelength would be 149892.18 per second. This would tune the transmitter in harmony with the world grid system.

In the early stages of my work I wondered why I could not obtain pure harmonics from all my calculations when dealing with physical substance that is, exactly 144 for the light harmonic etc. Tesla stated that it was not possible to obtain pure resonance or harmonic vibrations, because if this were so than matter itself would disintegrate. A certain amount of resistance must be allowed for it to prevent complete destruction of physical substance.

He tested his theory of power transmission by lighting 200 incandescent lamps at a distance of twenty-six miles from the laboratory while the oscillator was operating the energy being extracted directly from the earth. Each lamp required about 50 Watts of power a total of 13 hp. The claimed efficiency was 95 percent.

THE CENTURY MAGAZINE ran an article in the June edition of 1900 stating comments made by Tesla regarding his Colorado experiments: However extraordinary the results shown may appear, they are but trifling compared with those obtainable by apparatus designed on these same principles. I have produced electrical discharges the actual path of which, from end to end, was probably more than 100 feet long; but it would not be difficult to reach lengths 100 times as great. I have produced electrical movements occurring at the rate of approximately 100,000 horsepower, but rates of one, five or ten million horsepower are easily practicable. In these experiments, effects were developed incomparably greater than ever produced by any human agencies and yet these results are but an embryo of what is to be.

Tesla now had all the information he required to set up a station to transmit power to any point in the world, but before we move on to discuss his later activities let us have a closer look at the site he chose in Colorado where he tested all his theories and found positive proof of the harmonic structure of nature. In one of his unpublished articles he had stated in part that: Long ago he (man) recognized that all perceptible matter comes from a primary substance, of a tenuity beyond conception, filling all space, the Akasa or Luminiferous Ether, which is acted upon by all life-giving prana or creative force, called into existence, in never-ending cycles, all things and phenomena. THE PRIMARY SUBSTANCE, THROWN INTO INFINITESIMAL WHIRLS OF PRODIGIOUS VELOCITY, BECOMES GROSS MATTER; THE FORCE SUBSIDING. THE MOTION CEASES AND MATTER DISAPPEARS, REVERTING TO THE PRIMARY SUBSTANCE.

His experiments had shown him (as I had found in my own bumbling way) that matter was nothing more than a complex matrix of wave-forms locked together by harmonic resonance. The energy inherent in matter could be tapped if the secret of the geometric structure of the wave-forms could be broken.

So: for the theoretical latitude position we have:

Distance to the North Pole = 51.174548 degrees
Distance from the equator = 38.825453
Difference = 12.349095
Divided by 6 = 2.05818225 units
Multiplied by 2 = 4.116365
Squared = 16.9444

The harmonic 169444 is related to MASS, Gravity and COMMUNICATION and is demonstrated many times in my later works. The method of calculation also follows a regular pattern. The great circle displacement between longitude 104◦ 52 22 west and 90◦ 00 00 west, at the same latitude, also sets up an important harmonic. The value: 694.44 minutes of arc. This is the reciprocal harmonic of the Grid speed of light, 144000 minutes of arc per Grid second, in free space.

Tesla must have been well aware of the importance of the position he chose, but kept the reasons a closely guarded secret.

It is interesting to note that in this same area the military have chosen to set up the greatest electrical complex in the world the North American Defence Command, NORAD. I am not telling tales out of school here because other publications have already pointed this fact out.

From a public point of view though, one of the reasons becomes clear why the work and discoveries of Tesla remain suppressed: the military application of his discoveries has been considered far more important than the welfare of the ordinary citizen of the world. (13)

Tesla also said that he had developed a death ray that could kill at a great distance. Lt. Col. Thomas E. Bearden USAF (Ret.) has developed many of Teslas discoveries and the applications may be worse than just a simple death ray or protective field. Some applications include what is being done in mind control at a distance. Tesla developed the Unified Force Field which I think might be part of what is going on near Taos, New Mexico. It was being worked on by the Russians near Korea in the mid-80s according to a Chicago Tribune article I read. They talked about a Korean airliner that flew through suddenly extreme cold space. His work with the Philadelphia Experiment led to age regression through Time Travel but it was very dangerous.

In an earlier business incarnation of mine I employed Leposova Tesla. She was proud of her ancestor but like most people she knew little about the science behind his work which includes the invention of the radio. The U.S. Patent Office gave him the patent 25 years after his supporters sued for him and took it away from Marconi. He developed AC current and the Niagara Falls project that he had dreamed about for most of his life. There is a Museum on Goat Island in the Niagara River that honours him. There are many things of the world around you that have been part of his technological legacy including Neon lights, but this author is right about the far greater potential applications and the military or government uses or misuses. I find the actions of the Rothschild front man (J. Pierpont Morgan) especially reprehensible in his treatment of Teslas inventions and the steel alloy or other knowledge of Col. Churchward that they grabbed as well. Tesla died poor and some say his heart was broken but it was not due to a woman. He never had relations with another human.

His biography, the book named White Dove is one I enjoyed. There are rumours that Tesla did not die as stated in this book. If you follow the career of John von Neumann who was involved with Tesla in the Philadelphia Experiment then you might understand why this could be true. I include the recent use of ancient knowledge to demonstrate it is not mere fabrication or myth such as it has been characterized as being by the normative academics. You cannot read too much about the life and work of Nicola Tesla.

From what source in history could these sciences have come? Where is the proof?

The Gothic Cathedrals of Europe and their imitations throughout the world have been designed to include the knowledge of the Great Pyramid, and these harmonic effects that are focussed through the physical placement of architectural forms. The Templars built them under Papal passport in a time when no one else could move freely around that oppressive part of the world which now views itself so highly. You might be amazed to hear about the rock wall in New Zealand that mirrors the Tiahuanaco precision fit. I am no longer amazed by the likes of Yonaguni and a semi-step Pyramid there which might date to 17,000 years ago. I know there was a worldwide culture that you should know was able and adept in matters of the soul and spirit. We all must learn from our soul. I think Jesus knew We are all the children of God, as well as any adept.

When he was dying I do not believe he said My God, why hast thou forsaken me? It makes more sense to me that he was speaking Maya language and said I faint, I faint, darkness is coming over my face. Why would a real adept talk of God forsaking him, especially if he were the only begotten and co-equal of God along with the Holy Ghost?

Malta and the Tarim Basin join Puma Punku near Tiahuanaco as major research centers for initiates to study as I see it. How many such adept observatories exist and how many initiates or schools there were is anyones guess. I am sure the Mayan people had one before they came to Mayan lands over 8,000 years ago, and that might be Puma Punku. I favour the idea that mountain tops in many places had these schools going back to at least 50,000 years ago. People I work with have sent me such proofs in Alaska and Iowa but the academics have tried to destroy them. Thus we are not talking about the Kelts or Phoenicians as a genetic grouping but rather the ethical Brotherhood and such things as Mu/Mungo Man or Timbuktu. I have often shared words with Rod Schmidt who is a member of a forum of archaeologists and linguists I was invited to join, I think Inyo was one of the ancient ashram/universities.

INYO, the name of a county, mountain range and petroglyph site in Inyo County, California; Nearest community, Lone Pine, California. First brought to public attention in ESOP, Volume 8, Part 1, 1979. and Saga America, 1979. Both reports by Dr. Barry Fell. Later learned to be home of the worlds oldest animation by R. Schmidt. You have to give some of these gals credit when it comes to fund raising. It doesn't matter what kind of weather it is. Come rain, snow or blistering heat, they're out there with their tin cans and smiles trying to raise a buck or two for the charity of their choice. And it's not just street corners where these gals can be seen. Shopping centers, supermarkets and just about any public place is fair game for collecting for charity. So just what's involved in being able to do this? After all, you can't just go out, tin can in hand and start begging for bucks. There are some rules and things that must be done before you can collect even one quarter.

The very first thing you have to do is decide what organization you're going to do your fund raising for. Not every organization will allow you to beg publicly for loose change. So you have to first decide on the organization and find out if they allow such collecting. If they do, then you have to send away for the necessary materials. Aside from the cans, which must be clearly marked with the organization you're collecting for, there are papers that need to be filled out and a license that needs to be displayed. True, most people walking out of the local supermarket are not going to ask to see your authorization to collect money. However, you do have to have it with you should anybody want to see it. So what's on these documents?

Well, that depends on the organization, but most of them are pretty standard. They'll have the name of the organization on them and what the money is being collected for, such as what cause. For example, if the organization is the International Order Of Rainbow and they're collecting for The National Cancer Society, this will be stated on the document. If the organization and the cause are the same, then there is no need to state what the donations are for. It's understood.

Another thing you usually get from these organizations is some kind of uniform, even if it's just a hat. Some splurge for vests, but usually there's something to wear that identifies who you're collecting for. One of the most famous of these uniforms are the vests that the Knights Of Columbus wear. These are bright yellow and actually glow in the dark so you can see them at knight. And these guys are out at all hours of the day. They can usually be seen at busy intersections near shopping malls. That's where most of their business comes from.

Fund raising by standing on a corner or in the middle of a large intersection is a thankless job. Unlike a dinner, which is a few hours, these people stand outside for the better part of a whole day and it doesn't matter if it's nice out or the worst day of the year. These are the people who probably work harder than anyone else when it comes to fund raising. So when you see one out on the street, drop in a couple of coins. You'll be glad you did.

The advent of wireless broadband has put a new twist on people's mobility and communications. Wireless broadband connections can take many different forms. From an extension of conventional wired networks in your home or office, to wireless coverage of entire metropolitan areas, to the proliferation of WiFi hotspots all over the world - the Internet truly makes the world a global place.

Wireless Broadband and IP Telephony

Companies like Clearwire and Mobilepro Corp are connecting college campuses, even whole cities to the Internet wirelessly. Using fixed point to point, point to multipoint, and Non-Line-of-Site (NLOS) technologies, these companies can eventually cover areas of dense population that will rival the cellular networks.

Worldwide, even in remote locations, WiFi hotspots only need a little electricity and a satellite uplink to connect to the world.

Wireless broadband and IP telephony have the most potential in the small business and traveling community. A small business with branch offices spread around the country (or the world for that matter) could save considerably on their telecommunication expenses utilizing VoIP. As would the traveling salesperson staying at a far away hotel, more and more of which have their own wireless networks. Just pick a provider, find a hotspot and watch your phone bill drop.

IP Telephony over wireless broadband is emerging as a viable alternative to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), and is even encroaching on the cellular communications industry. Whereas the big cellular networks put in place by companies like Sprint and Verizon have done a good job blanketing North America, and Europe, the cost to the consumer can be cut even more by utilizing the Internet to transport voice.

VoIP and the Cellular Networks

IP telephony is a disruptive technology, meaning that it has the potential to turn an existing market upside down. Imagine how the Telco's felt when a long distance call for which they used to charge a dollar a minute can now be made for pennies. Needless to say, the Ma Bells and mobile phone companies will resist this change, but as the technology evolves, adoption seems inevitable.

Just as the sound quality on cellular networks are generally less than land lines, massive adoption of mobile phones show that people are willing to tolerate loss of quality for convenience. Quality of sound over an IP connection can be anywhere from a dropped call to cell phone quality, to the equivalent of a land line connection, depending on network utilization.

The advantages of VoIP over conventional telephony are becoming clearer, but what would be the advantages of IP Telephony over cellular phones? While both cell phone companies and the pure-play VoIP providers have monthly plans, internet phone companies do not charge more for prime time, and the monthly service charges are significantly less. Most mobile phone companies offer free nationwide long distance in the U.S., whereas Vonage, for example offers free calls throughout the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Europe.

One major trend in the telecommunications industry is Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC). The technology would allow cell phone handsets to seamlessly switch between cellular networks and a landline network infrastructure. The landline network would be WiFi or Bluetooth, and would connect directly to the PSTN, or a broadband Internet connection, allowing both cellular and/or VoIP and PSTN phone calls.

International rates with VoIP are the lowest to be had, to some countries as low as 2-3 cents a minute for a call to a PSTN number. Calls to cell phones however, are charged at a much higher rate.

WiFi Cell Phones

Essential to the widespread implementation of wireless VoIP is, of course, the hardware- the phone itself. While many pure-play Internet phone companies have had WiFi telephones for a while, the ideal solution would be a cell phone that goes both ways. Companies like Truphone have furthered the cause by developing an Open Source application based on the widely accepted Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which allows a seamless transition from the Internet to the PSTN.

Nokia, a leading manufacturer of cell phones, has developed a line of "Smart Phones" starting with its E60 series that is dual band and can switch between cellular and WiFi networks. Their latest innovation, the N80, combines all the latest technology and truly is a "smart" phone. These phones will automatically switch back and forth while roaming between cellular and WiFi networks, purportedly without dropping the call.

IP Telephony over wireless networks is a technology just out of its infancy, and is yet to become wide spread. The cost effectiveness of routing voice packets over the internet as opposed to land lines, or even cellular networks, cannot be denied. But don't expect the Telco's or the cellular phone companies to embrace this technology wholeheartedly until they can figure out a way to make a profit.

The trickiest question that an interviewer can ask a candidate interviewing for a student newspaper job-any student newspaper job, is Which department is the most important? Advertising, business, editorial or production?

Indeed, it's a tough question when you are sitting in the hot glare of the interview. You probably would be tempted to answer that the most important department is the one for which you are applying. Beware of that trap. The best answer: all are equally important.

Symbiosis

Student newspaper production is an excellent, working example of symbiosis. A functioning and successful partnership that is shared among the newspapers departments. In order for the editorial staff of a newspaper to have the space for its copy, the advertising sales reps must make sales. The advertising staff must depend of the art department to create eye-catching, effective ads that work for the advertiser. The sales staff rely on the writers and editors to create informative and engaging copy that advertisers will be interested in supporting. Of course, there is the business department, whose accounts receivable efforts fund the publication of each issue.

Sometimes overlooked, but critical to the process are the legions of support personnel that work behind the scenes. Consider the example of the duties of distribution specialists. All of the work that is devoted to creating an issue is meaningless until the final product is in the hands of the readers.

Production Cycle

A production cycle refers to the entire process of publishing one issue of your newspaper. This cycle begins with the first ad sold for that particular issue and ends with the last copy of that issue being delivered to its distribution point. Although everyone working in a newsroom has a shared goal (a strong and influential profitable paper), different staff members have a wide variety of tasks that need to be accomplished to reach the goal. As a result, the road through the production cycle can be bumpy. Effective use and practice of Productive Communication will make the ride much more smooth.

The dictionary describes symbiosis as a close association between different types of organisms in a community, working toward a common goal. Except for describing our colleagues as organisms, this definition is very descriptive of the strong, working cooperation needed to publish a newspaper. Strong newsroom symbiosis will lead to success.

The vast majority of working people are in debt. The vast majority of people who are now in debt are always struggling to find better jobs with higher pay checks. As strange as it may sound the more you think about it the more you will come to realise that the more money people make the deeper they get into debt. It almost seems that finding another job with better pay check is not the most effective solution to get out of debt.

These same people are now so weary that they are wishing to be out of debt forever, dreaming to never have to worry about money, craving to be financially free.

As you know, jumping from being deep in debt to having financial freedom is not a small leap at all. To attain real freedom takes concrete planning and self-discipline in taking orderly and progressive steps from where you are now to where you want to be.

Before your finances can actually soar you need to get out of your deep hole of debt first. This should be your first goal. As soon as you are out of debt, you can easily embark your journey to your financial freedom!

Track your daily expenses

The aim for doing this is to know exactly where your money goes everyday. Record every incoming and outgoing penny and evaluate every week how much money you spent on necessities and how much money you could have saved. Was it really necessary to buy those $200 shoes using your credit card? Could you have bought something less expensive with the money you actually had in your wallet instead of using your credit card again?

By recording and evaluating your expenses regularly you will come to see that there actually are ways to reduce expenses and save money! The more money you can save everyday the more money you will have to pay off your debt completely.

Dont rob Peter to Pay Paul

Some people are so deep in debt that they dont know what to do. It is common that at some point they would obtain cash advance on one visa to pay other credit card bills.

Choose one credit card to keep and cut up the rest. If you dont trust yourself enough lock up the one card you have in your drawer at home to make sure you never use it for shopping. Discipline yourself not to use it unless in an emergency. Remember: you want to get out of debt, not accumulate it!

Plan Your Debt Elimination Process

The best ways to start your debt elimination process is by first sitting down and making a plan of attack.

Write down each debt that you have: Visa, MasterCard, Amex, car loan and so on. Now, make a list of your debt, starting from the smallest total balance to the biggest.

What you are going to do is concentrate on one debt for the next few months (or years depending on how big your debt is) and start paying off all of them one by one. Focus on the smallest debt first. Write down the monthly minimum payment of the smallest debt you have and add the number up with a percentage of your net income.

Lets say the smallest debt you have is your Visa with the minimum payment of $148. The 5% of your net income is $70. For the next few months (or years) you will be paying off your Visa with the minimum payment PLUS the 5% of your net income, which is $218.

While you are focusing on your Visa, you should pay off the rest of your debt according to each monthly minimum payment agreement. This should go on until your Visa is paid off completely.

As soon as your Visa is paid off, you focus on the smallest debt. Like before, add up the minimum payment with 5% of your net income. But this time add the sum with the minimum payment of your Visa that is already paid off.

If your next smallest debt is the MasterCard with minimum payment of $183, this should be added up with the 5% of your net income AND the Visa minimum payment. The total payment for your MasterCard would be $401. Now that your Visa is paid off you have more money to pay off the rest of your debt faster.

Your next debt should be paid with the money you used before to pay off your Visa and your MasterCard minimum payment. This process should be repeated on and on until all your debt is eliminated.

By doing this you will shorten the years of your debt elimination process.

Manage Your Time and Money Wisely

Time and money is the most precious resources everybody has to actually attain financial freedom. But yet, none of us are taught in schools to manage them wisely.

Now you are in the process of paying off your debt. If you manage your time wisely to make more money to save or help to pay off your debt, you will not only speed up your debt elimination but retirement process and your financial freedom.

Devote some of your spare time to reducing your expenses and increasing your income. The sooner you become debt free the sooner you can save more money and invest to start working on your early retirement process and attain financial freedom.

Everybody knows the disadvantages of being in a debt. But not many of us are aware of the advantages of being debt-free. By being debt-free you have more money to save and invest to prepare for your retirement. And this should be your next goal. Use your time wisely to create extra money and use your extra money wisely to prepare for your retirement and eventually your financial freedom.

Over the last 10 years the American housing market has been booming, property values rising across the board and construction was up to near all time highs. This led to empowerment of the American homeowner and first time buyers. With more possibilities due to the resulting rise in equity, countless homeowners began the process of improvement of their homes and setting their sites on bigger and better.

At the end of the last decade the first time home buyer, new to the real estate market and unaware of the trends in real estate, began to tap into their new found equity and over the next several years their spending habits began to look less and less responsible. Thinking the lucky streak of rising equity would never end and fueled by the hype in the media, Mr. and Mrs. Homeowner begin to take on more and more debt than they will eventually be capable of handling.

Fast forward 8 years, the market generally speaking is beginning to cool off with real estate values at near all time highs. The fast 2 day time on market has turned into 2 months, 4 months and now average time is beginning to look like 6 months or more.

Being in the mortgage business, my wife and I had begun to realize just how serious this situation was becoming as client after client kept coming back to us for refis. What Is A FHA Loan?

Most of us need to borrow some money at least at one point of time in our life. When we want to buy a car, to study at the College or University, when we want to buy a house or home, when we need money to start our own business - even when we use our credit cards.

There are many types of loans and mortgages, such as FHA loans, Student loans, College loans, Business loans, Personal loans, Commercial loans, Payday loans, Auto loans, Car loans, Vehicle loans, Mobile home loans, Motorcycle loans, Military loans, Construction loans, Home loans, house loans, home equity loans, Bridge loans, Disaster loans, farm operating loans, Agriculture loans, Debt consolidation loans, Direct Loans, Government loans, Unsecured loans, refinance/remortgage loans, Bad credit loans, etc., just to name a few.

Within each loan term there are additional sub terms such as Fixed rate vs. Variable rate, Adjustable rate, ARM, PITI, HELOC, Balloon Mortgage, reverse mortgage, and other bewildering financial terms we will try to clarify here.

What is FHA

Home mortgages are important part of the loans universe but we will concentrate here On a specific one called FHA. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA), a wholly owned government corporation, was established under the National Housing Act of 1934 to improve housing standards and conditions. Its goal was to provide an adequate home financing system through insurance of mortgages, and to stabilize the mortgage market.

FHA is not a loan, Its an Insurance! If a home buyer defaults, the lender is paid from the insurance fund. An FHA loan allows you to buy a house with as little as 3% down payment, instead of the higher percentages required to secure many conventional loans. Taking advantage of the FHA loan program is a great way for first time buyers, or anyone with a shortage of down payment funds, to buy a home. It is not a program reserved only for first time home buyers. You can buy your third or fourth home with an FHA loan. The only stipulation is that you may only have one FHA loan at a time.

FHA helps low and moderate-income families purchase homes by keeping the initial costs down. By serving as an umbrella under which lenders have the confidence to extend loans to those who may not meet conventional loan requirements, FHA's mortgage insurance allows individuals to qualify who may have been previously denied for a home loan by conventional underwriting guidelines. It also protects lenders against loan default on mortgages for properties that include manufactured homes, single-family and multifamily properties, and some health-related facilities.

The two very basic terms you need to understand is A.PITI and B. Long Term Debt. PITI stands for Principle, Interest, Taxes, and Insurance. It is with relations to your Mortgage and property housing total monthly cost. Your maximum PITI should not exceed 29% of your gross monthly income.

Long term debt includes such things as car loans and credit cards balances. In order to qualify for FHA loan your PITI + Long Term Debt should not exceed 41% of gross monthly income.

This is much lenient terms compared to conventional loan terms of maximum PITI of 26% - 28% and Total PITI + Long Term Debt of 33% -36%.

Qualifying for an FHA loan you need the following:

- Good credit history that shows you meet your financial obligations.

- PITI + Long Term Debt not to exceed 41% of gross monthly income.

- Sufficient cash down payment at time of closing. 3% of the total cost.

Wrinkles are caused by the skin losing elasticity as the body ages and from the long-term effects of muscle contractions from smiling, frowning and laughing. But they are also worsened by sun damage, smoking and from the stressful lives that we lead. Today more and more people go in for wrinkle treatment with Botox cosmetic. Botox a sterile, purified protein produced from the bacteria, clostridium botulinum, is injected in small amounts into facial muscles binds to the nerve endings supplying the muscle and prevents nerve impulses from traveling to the muscle.

The resultant weakening or paralyzing effect on the facial muscle temporarily reduces or eliminates previous skin creasing and new skin creasing is avoided. Within three or four days of this wrinkle treatment, the patient can have a visibly smooth wrinkle-free face and the effect typically lasts for 3-6 months after which the treatment needs to be repeated. Financial literacy is the means of empowering consumers to make informed financial decisions through exposure to accurate and timely information. In no other area is the void of accurate information more evident that in the area of foreclosure.

The national foreclosure rate is at the highest level since the Great Depression. Families fall behind on the mortgage payments because of illness, job layoffs, business failure, divorce and marital problems, and bad money management decisions. Foreclosure and the loss of the home is the usual result. Foreclosure is financially and psychologically devastating to the stability of the household.

This article provides information to expose homeowners to the financial principles of loss mitigation. Loss mitigation is essential to asset protection because it provides the borrower with information necessary to make good decisions. Learning the programs or "tools" available as an alternative to foreclosure is the key to preserving home ownership.

For example, If I told you that the mortgage servicing industry reports average loss of $20,000 to $30,000 per foreclosure, then you may be inclined to believe that foreclosure is not an efficient and cost effective means of collections for the lender. According to Vic Draper, President of Universal Default Services, "33% of all mortgage defaults that go to REO never made contact with the borrower!" The lender does not want your home and will work out a financial alternative if you speak their language.

LOSS MITIGATION TOOLS

A homeowner should know and understand options available during times of crisis. It makes the difference in gaining ground in challenging situations. A point well presented by Gerry Spence, legendary attorney and best selling author of How to Argue and Win Every Time, a book I first bought as a young attorney and have since read numerous times. Spence stresses that you cannot make the winning argument if you are speaking English and the other person is speaking French. Parlez-vous Francais?

The following financial tools act as a safety net that allows for a quicker recovery. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has been instrumental in establishing guidelines to assist homeowners experiencing financial hardships. The goal is to offer financial alternatives to foreclosure, while allowing lenders to make determinations based on certain risk criteria. Lenders also benefit from the prevention of losses due to foreclosure sales. Without these programs, millions of people would lose homes each year.

FORBEARANCE PLAN

Immediately contact the lender to report a temporary loss or reduction in income and signup for a forbearance. A forbearance plan is designed to bring payments current over a period of time by paying a full payment each month, plus a partial payment on the delinquent amount. An initial down payment is required. Most lenders have a forbearance program. However, you must be diligent in requesting forbearance even if it means speaking with a manager with authority to approve the plan. Request that the approval be sent to you in writing.

Affordability

An important subsection in acceptance of forbearance is the probability of successfully completing the plan. It is easy to agree to any repayment plan when desperately trying to stop foreclosure. You will be happy to stop the process by any means necessary.

I have had clients who agreed to ridiculous repayment plans that they obviously did not have the income to cover. In some cases, it appeared that the lender pulled numbers out of the sky without gathering information on the homeowners ability to repay. This is poor mitigation technique that will normally count against the client as a broken promise to pay and often leads to the decision to sell the property rather than take additional risk with the homeowner.

During the early part of 2004, a prospective client contacted Save Your Home two days before his home was scheduled for sale. Despite time limitations, we had a very good relationship with this particular lender and agreed to intervene on the homeowners behalf.

He had $8,000 to use as a down payment to stop the sale but the lender refused to accept it because a forbearance plan had been put in place three months earlier in which our client had paid a $6,500 down payment, but failed to make the subsequent payments under the terms of the agreement. This made him a bad risk for reinstatement and foreclosure seemed the most prudent financial decision for the lender to recover its arrearage.

However, the truth of the matter was the homeowner agreed to a plan that he could not afford to pay. It was not a good plan because it was based on a higher monthly income due to miscalculations where a quarterly bonus should have appeared on the financial status report. His monthly income had been overstated by $600 per month. When it was time to make the other payments, he was rich on paper but was cash poor. He did not have the income and as a result violated the repayment plan.

We convinced the lender to take another look at the numbers. In the end, the lender accepted a $2,500 down payment and modified the terms of the loan. The client was able to keep his home because he correctly reported his income to the lender. Make sure that you report your income accurately so that you can afford the repayment plan offered to you.

LOAN MODIFICATION

When the financial loss is due to an illness, death or loss of a spouse, or unexpected increase in expenses, (e.g. tax levy, sick child, or other permanent hardships), talk to the lender about a loan modification. A loan modification changes the terms of the loan to lower the payments. Documentation of the hardship will be necessary. Loan modifications are granted frequently. Still, you must aggressively negotiate with the lender. Refer to examples in case study.

REVERSE MORTGAGES

This is a type of home equity loan that allows you to convert some of the equity into cash while retaining ownership. If you are 62 or older and are house-rich and cash-poor, a reverse mortgage is an option to consider. Consult with your family, attorney, or financial advisor before applying for a reverse mortgage. Knowing your rights and responsibilities as a borrower may help to minimize financial risks and the threat of foreclosure.

DEED IN LIEU OF FORECLOSURE

If turning over the home is an option, contact the lender to voluntary release the deed to the property with the stipulation that the lender agrees not to start or complete foreclosure proceedings. Many lenders will agree to this arrangement since it gives them possession of the property minus exorbitant legal fees and court costs. Further, request that the lender remove some or all of the missed payment reports to the credit bureau. If not, threaten to file bankruptcy or to fight to keep the home. Get all agreements in writing on company letterhead.

PARTIAL CLAIM

A partial claim is an interest free loan available on FHA/HUD loans. To qualify, a loan must be at least 4 months delinquent but not more than 12 months. If approved, the partial claim is repaid after the first loan has been paid in full.

SHORT REFINANCE The area of loss mitigation is always changing in order to address new challenges within the economy. Because of a tremendous loss of jobs in some areas, property values have steadily declined.

A new loss mitigation tool that some innovative lenders are using to address the new economy is called the short refinance. Remember that refinancing out of foreclosure is extremely difficult because of loan to value restrictions that may not be sufficient to pay off the existing mortgage and cover closing costs.

If the property value has decreased, certain lenders and investors may be willing to accept less money. You must agree to an in home inspection and provide the normal loss mitigation package for approval. The lender closes a new mortgage loan to pay off the mortgage that is in foreclosure. If you have a second mortgage lien, this lien holder is not included in this deal and will still have the same loan amount.

SHORT SALE Lenders are in the business of lending money not owning houses. The lender will allow you to sell the home to someone and accept far less than what you currently owe on the mortgage. This is also called a short payoff because the lender agrees to cancel the note and mortgage as a lien on the home. The lender may want to perform an in home inspection to determine the propertys condition and value. Cooperation with this request by allowing access

Edward Coley Burne-Jones - A Short History

Edward Coley Burne-Jones was born in 1833 in Birmingham. His father was a small business owner, specializing as a framer, and his mother died a few weeks after Edward was born. He lived in the industrial town of Birmingham until he was twenty. He attended King Edward VI school from the age of eleven and achieved high academic results in mathematics and drawing. He went to Exetor College in Oxford in 1853, and met William Morris, who became a lifelong friend and they also shared a home from 1856. They both had thought about church work, but Edward decided to becomes a painter and William became an architect. He also changed his name from Jones to Burne-Jones about this time.

Edward took a few lessons from Rosetti, but essentially he is a self-taught artist. He learned from Rosetti the need to keep art pure and was a supporter of the Pre-Raphaelite styles and forms. He was also prominent in promoting medieval art. His early works were pen and ink drawings and watercolors of a romantic nature. He traveled to Italy on a number of occasions during his life to fine tune his artistic talent. He married Georgina MacDonald, a sister of a friend. He designed stained glass windows and later took on a job with Morris in 1875 at his stained glass factory.

He was also a friend of John Ruskin the art critic and they traveled together to Italy where Edward began to develop a unique style. He preferred to draw a live model, and narrowly escaped a scandal of an affair with one of his models.

Edward concentrated on oil paintings from 1877 and almost immediately won wide acclaim. Some of his oil paintings were large compared to other works. His works were the major draw-card at a number of shows in the coming years, including the Exposition Universelle in 1878. He was also a witness for John Ruskin at a libel case with James McNeill Whistler.

He never limited himself to canvas and designed decorations for jewelry, tiles, costumes and tapestries. His finest work in this area is regarded as the Holy Grail series that are displayed at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

Throughout his life, Edward used literature as his inspiration for his paintings, and this is most evident in The Briar Rose (1873) and Perseus (1882)

He became a Baron in 1894, and died from heart failure as Sir Edward Burne-Jones in Fulham in 1998.

When Does a Bill Collector Violate Federal Law?

A bill collector violates Federal Law when they do not comply with the provisions of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. In other words, they could be fined up to $1,000 for each violation. Included are deceptive collection activities. Remember when I wrote about those nasty letters that you put in a drawer until you worked up the courage to read them? There could be many violations on those letters. Until you open and read them however you cannot possible identify any violations. Those letters could be very beneficial to you in your efforts to educate yourself about the system.

When a bill collector calls you at work and he knows that your boss does not allow these type phone calls, he or she is violating the law. If by chance this does happen and you are the one answering the phone then inform the bill collector that your boss does not allow you to take time away from your job to answer calls from bill collectors. Tell them you are invoking your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If they are smart and up to date then they will know not to call you at work again. If they persist and call again simply write down the time, date and name of the person who called you. This is your proof they violated the law.

The bill collector also violates the law when you ask for validation within 30-days after you receive the initial collection notice and they fail to provide you with what you asked for. In some cases a bill collector will not answer you request for validation and simply refer your account to another collector. They think this will get them off the hook, but once you request validation of debt, the bill collector MUST notify the Credit Reporting Agencies that the debt is being disputed. It is when they fail to do this that the violation occurs.

It pays for you to be clever here. Once you have sought debt validation with the 30-day period, it is also a good time to dispute the entry with the Credit Reporting Agencies. If they return your dispute as being verified as accurate, you now know the bill collector never notified the reporting agencies and is in violation of the Fair Debt Reporting Act.

When you are sure this is the case, then simply sue the bill collector in Small Claims Court like I wrote about in an earlier article.

Inflatable boats, also called rubber boats or dinghies, have been around in one form or another for thousands of years. They now come in many different sizes and models and include inflatable kayaks, sport boats, and inflatable catamarans. Their versatility and relatively low cost have contributed to their popularity, and more and more water enthusiasts are discovering the advantages of owing an inflatable boat.

Evolution of the Inflatable Boat

Historical records indicate that the first inflatable boats were animal skins filled with air. Over the years, many cultures have created various versions of inflatable watercraft, and in 1839, the Duke of Wellington tested the first inflatable pontoons. In the decades that followed, many new designs were introduced and some of them were utilized by European military forces.

The inflatable boats were used to transport torpedoes and other cargo. They also allowed troops to make discreet landings in shallow water, and their compact size and storability made them easy to bring with, even on overland marches where it would not have been possible to bring a traditional boat.

One of the models, the Zodiac, grew to be very popular with the military and contributed significantly to the rise of the civilian inflatable boat industry, both in Europe and in the United States. After World War II, surplus inflatable boats were sold to the public and the general population had a chance to experience how easy and enjoyable these boats can be.

Since then, inflatable kayaks, sailing inflatables, inflatable canoes, sport boats, and belly boats have been added to the mix. Some inflatable boats run 45 feet in length or more and may include inboard steering, luxury features, and even full cabins. Inflatable boats have evolved so much that today, the only thing inflatable on some boats is the collar around the perimeter gunwales of the deck.

Hull Designs & Types of Inflatable Boats

Inflatable boats come in rigid hull design and soft-bottom style. Soft-bottom boats have floors made of fabric and slats (usually wood) running across the beam. This design is generally found in smaller inflatables ranging from about 6 to 8 feet in length only.

Rigid hulls, or RIBs, were introduced in 1967 by Tony Lee-Elliott and advanced by Admiral Hoare and the Atlantic College in Wales. As opposed to soft-bottom boats, which have a fabric hull with inflatable or wood keels, RIBs have hard fiberglass or aluminum hulls and large, inflatable tubes. This allows for a combination of the best features from both types of boats.

Some RIBs incorporate the V-shaped bow similar to that of a traditional boat. This design consists of a separate inflation tube running the length of the boat beneath the floorboards. Once inflated, it pushes the floor materials down to form the V-shape that helps in steering. The flotation collars on many RIBs are removable, making them easier to store and to clean.

RIBs typically range from 10 to 30 feet in length and are propelled by either by an outboard motor or an inboard motor turning a water jet or z-drive. They were first used as lifeboats in 1970, and later as dinghies or tenders on larger pleasure yachts. Many of todays sport boats used for fishing and water skiing are made with RIB designs.

Inflatable Sport Boats

Inflatable sport boats generally describe recreational boats that are used for fishing, water skiing, and other activities where a motor is required. Depending on the size of the craft, an inflatable sport boat can be used with a motor that generates up to 40 units of horsepower They can be deflated and packed away for easy transport or used with a trailer to avoid having to inflate at each use. Inflatable sport boats typically cost much less than their traditional counterparts and, because they are lighter, use much less gas.

High Performance

Several companies also make high performance inflatable boats that are used for racing, rescue, and other activities where speed is essential. These high performance boats generally have additional inflation tubes that lift the boat up off the water and create additional hydroplaning effects. They typically use larger motors, sometimes up to 400 horsepower. Because of their speed they are more difficult to navigate and require an experienced captain.

Inflatable Canoes, Kayaks, and Other Personal Watercraft

On the flip side are the inflatable canoes and kayaks that rely on human power and are used by one or two people at a time. These watercraft often look similar to their traditional counterparts, but have inflatable bodies, making them much lighter and easier to transport. They are often less expensive as well.

In more recent years, inflatable sailboats and inflatable catamarans also have been introduced. They usually range from 12 to 14 feet in length and, like inflatable canoes and kayaks, only accommodate one or two people.

Belly boats are yet another category of inflatable personal watercraft. These floats are sometimes called pontoon boats, but are not to be confused with the large, flat-bottomed craft often seen carrying large numbers of people on area lakes. Belly boats were specifically designed to be used for fishing and often look like floating donuts with a seat. Some may have two small pontoons with a seating area suspended between. Most are less than eight feet long and have room for just one person.

Yacht Tenders

Falling in between inflatable kayaks and other personal watercraft and the larger sport and performance boats are the Yacht Tenders. These are typically inflatable boats that range in length from 6 feet to 20 feet and, as the name implies, they are often used as lifeboats and runabouts on larger vessels. Yacht tenders can also be used for fishing, general boating, river rafting, and other activities where a motor is not essential. Many tenders can be paired with a small electric motor if needed.

These categories of inflatable boats provide a general overview of the choices available. There are many variations and unique designs within these categories. In addition, some larger models of inflatable boats have inboard steering stations, cabin areas, and other features similar to traditional yachts.

As the inflatable boat industry continues to advance and grow in popularity, we are likely to see many new and innovative designs in the future, providing even more opportunities to find the inflatable boat that fits perfectly with your budget and boating needs.

One of the most beloved travel destinations in Canada is the Banff and Lake Louise area located in the province of Alberta. The town of Banff is 90 minutes (75 miles) west of Calgary and is within the Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. One can see the Rocky Mountains from Calgary since the Banff area is at the eastern edge of the Canadian Rocky Mountain range. It is also one of the most visited areas in Canada all year round since the rugged beauty of the mountains and the protected wilderness draws tourists from around the world. During the winter, the three local resorts of Sunshine Village, Norquay Mystic Ridge and Lake Louise offer some of the best snow skiing around.

There are numerous shops, restaurants and small to mid-sized hotels in the town of Banff which is why the majority of travelers use it as the base during their stays. The town itself is small enough to walk around in since large scale development is limited since Banff is located within a national park. As a result, the town of Canmore just outside the national park boundary has become a recent spot of development. This offers tourists with rental cars another choice for accommodations. There is a complete range of accommodations from budget motels to the ritzy and majestic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel overlooking the nearby valley. Many hotels have views of the mountain ranges and I can personally claim that there is something very magical about waking up and seeing a snow capped peak first thing in the morning, particularly during the non-winter season.

Like the choice of accommodations, the range of dining opportunities covers the entire spectrum as well. Travelers can dine at the most fancy eating establishments or buy their own groceries at the local grocer. One thing for beef lovers is not to miss the Alberta prime rib here which is a local specialty. It practically melts in your mouth. Some restaurants serve very generous 24 ounce (or higher) portions called mountain cuts for those who think they can eat it all.

There are numerous activities during the non-winter seasons including hiking, horseback riding, fishing, golf and a hot springs spa heated naturally by the mountain. The wonderful mountain scenery just makes these activities seem that much more special here. Imagine golfing with views of mountains in the background and glimpses of elk. Of course, the winters have the skiing and snowboarding but there are other winter activities such as dog sledding and snowmobile tours. For skiers and boarders, there is a very good bus shuttle system set up which picks skiers up at various locations around town and transports them to any of the three ski resorts mentioned earlier. Some shuttle stops are right outside of the many hotels so for many, it can be door to slope and return service. Most skiers opt to ski all three resorts during their stays.

Lake Louise is about 45 minutes (35 miles) further into the mountain range and home to one of the largest ski areas in North America. World class events are held here as well as a previous winter Olympics and the resort Lake Louise is serviced by the ski shuttle system from Banff. Even for non-skiers, a day trip to Lake Louise is a must. The largest hotel there, the Chateau Lake Louise, is right beside the beautiful Lake Louise itself. There is a glacier named Victoria Glacier which is nestled between snow capped mountains. During the winters, the lake is completely frozen and people can walk right across it. The hotel usually sets up a skating area on the lake. During the summers, one can still see some of the white snow capped peaks along with the glacier but what makes things really special is the lake itself too which is an emerald green color. On certain days and hours, the lake gives a stunning reflection of the mountain/glacier scene. This combination offers one of the most beautiful and photographed scenes in Canada. No motorized boats are allowed in the lake but there are canoe rentals available. Taking a canoe across the lake while seeing the glacier and mountain range is one of the most special, peaceful activities one can do.

The wildlife in the Banff and Lake Louise area is another attraction. There are wildlife spotting tours available but every time I have traveled to the area, I've seen deer and elk along the roads and highways. I've even seen them wander right into the front of the Banff Springs hotel. The road that leads up to the Norquay Mystic Ridge ski resort just outside of Banff is a golden spot for wildlife. On every drive up that particular road whether during the winter or summer, I have always seen curly horned mountain goats. Many are so used to cars that they would just move aside for vehicles to get by but would still stay on the roads. This makes great photo opportunities.

One thing to be careful of especially when hiking is the possibilities of bears. During the non-winter seasons, pay attention to the local rangers who give reports of bear sightings as it is not recommended to go on trails where bears have been recently.

Many world tourists think of Canada as a land of wonderful natural scenery and although the country is much more than that, the Banff and Lake Louise area is probably one of the best examples of Canadian natural beauty. It is a place that draws visitors, foreign and Canadians alike, back to the area like it does for me every few years.

Interview Format

Ari and another gentleman were being interviewed by LawLine. The interviewer was interviewing both his son (David Shurman) and Ari. Ari is a former full-time practicing lawyer who always enjoyed the interesting information that he learned and interesting people he got to meet due to his profession, but not the paper work so much, there was always tons of it to go through and he did diligently. He recalls lamenting his days at work with his wife and telling her of the interesting people he got to meet each evening.

Topic

The interviews main theme was the increasing usage of Lawyers to use the Internet and informational marketing or rather using the Internet as a way to propel "expert status" using such technologies as Blogs, iPod Casting, SEO (search engine optimization) and writing articles. Both interviewees put forth various relevant strategies in this venue to help lawyers market their services better.

Indeed the interviewer (old school lawyer) was simply amazed at the potential and the new technologies and how this changed the game. One interesting example was a Chicago Law Firm that was able to capitalize on "Key Words" such as "I hurt my leg" in order to drive Internet Surfers to his website and then convert them to clients.

The Interview showed the importance to have Internet Presence and how this is the new paradigm and law firms must adapt in this new technologically changing environment. Other examples of future technologies were interwoven into the interview to demonstrate that the future is now, the train has left the station and law firms must move forward if they are to stay competitive.

Issues with that interview

Ari touched his face too much especially his ears. His body language suggested to me, that he was severely holding back his high energy and was being overly conciliatory to the other interviewee, who also happened to be the son of the interviewer. It seemed like Ari, was more qualified to discuss the issue, but had to pretend that the son of the interviewee was his equal, he was nothing of the sort. The son responded by several statements lending credibility to Ari and yet Ari, although playing it well, gave himself away as he knew he was well beyond the son's knowledge base.

What I Conclude:

It is problematic that lawyers have dominated every sector of the economy, bureaucracy, military, companies and everyday life in America, now they are training other lawyers how to take over the Internet. This is typical of the self-serving profession of law and how it provides little if any productivity and costs our economy trillions each year in exaserbated costs.

Interestingly enough as Lawyers begin to Blog they will hold themselves above the population in their content and sue anyone who disagrees with them. Thus will ruin yet another industry or sector. In this case the greatest communication system ever created in the history of mankind will be destroyed by lawyers, which have hijacked the Information Highway of the future. Now then the interview was valid in that these strategies can work for any type of business, consultant and therefore the panel discussion/slash interview was worth watching.

Ari Kaplan has the right patrician looks and would be much better in a single interview or with someone who is his equal, if someone can be found to promote various topics as an expert. He needs someone to interview him who is wise and can keep up. He is holding back his flow of information and his ability to speak at 165 words per minute. He needs more time to talk and someone who can guide the flow of his knowledge base in an interview. People could learn a lot from Ari. The question is only, is the world ready to discuss things at the higher level?
