Web 2.0 Marketing... Fantastic Or Fad

As buzzwords go, web 2.0 is pretty much at the top of the list these days. The ironic part about the whole web 2.0 craze is that many people can't even agree on what web 2.0 actually is, if it even exists. Well, while we're not going to try to give you a clear cut definition of what web 2.0 is "supposed" to be, this article will try to give you some idea of what it actually is and then dive into the question of whether web 2.0 marketing is really as great as people say it is, or if it's just another fad that will someday go the way of the dinosaur.

The arguments of what web 2.0 are will probably go on forever, but for the purpose of this article and to keep this as simple as possible, web 2.0 is the practice of having things that are not dependent on the computer that you are on. For example. When you browse the Internet, you use a browser. That browser is installed on your PC. If anything happens to your PC or that browser, it will stop functioning and you won't be able to use it any longer. This is software that is dependent on your PC in order to run.

Web 2.0 is the total opposite. A perfect example of a web 2.0 site is Google. Google has a number of tools that you can use, similar to browsers whereby they perform a function, such as Adwords, Analytics, and Adsense. You can be at any computer in the world and use these things. They are not dependent on any particular software being installed on your PC. That is the basic concept and premise of web 2.0, in spite of the fact that there are those who will argue that any website performs a service, and since this has been going on since the beginning of time, web 2.0 is nothing but a new buzzword for old stuff. Well, like I said, we're not going to argue that here. Maybe another time.

What we are going to try to do is answer the question of whether web 2.0 is really great for marketing or if indeed it is just another fad that will be replaced by something else down the road.

The truth is, the users are the ones who are going to answer that question. Currently, the answer is a resounding "wow!". Web 2.0 sites are popping up all over the place. Social bookmarking sites, which are part of the web 2.0 craze, are all over. Marketers are reporting substantial sales by using these sites. Why? Simple. People are going to them. Once the people stop going, which will happen either when they are replaced by something else or the people simply get tired of going to them, then web 2.0 will most likely become just another buzzword that died along with all the other ones that came before it.

Probably not the answer you were looking for, but it is what it is. Think of some of the most popular rock bands in the history of music. Some only lasted for a very short time. As popular as the Beatles were, they were only around for about 7 years. In the grand scheme of things, that's not very long. The number 1 song of 1971 was by a group that had about a 4 year career, at least as far as popularity goes. Today, few young people would even know who they were.

The point is, things come and go. That's the natural order of life. Will web 2.0 go the distance? Will it still be around 10 years from today? As quickly as the Internet changes, it's doubtful. But until that day comes, the future popularity of web 2.0 is nothing more than speculation.

For today, web 2.0 is most definitely alive and well and taking names.

Four Ways To Eliminate Spam

The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 was supposed to eliminate spam email. This federal spam law that became effective January 1, 2004, was passed by Congress to get rid of junk email.

So why didn't the law eliminate spam and why is it so difficult to stop it? Still today, more than 40% of all e-mail is still unsolicited sent to you by spammers even though that law passed.

The truth is email spammers make so much money they can afford to outsmart The Federal Trade Commission with sophisticated technology.

It is almost impossible to enforce this law although a few do get caught and pay the huge price.

Spam is not likely to go away anytime soon, and it's difficult to eliminate spam email altogether. But there are some simple ways to significantly reduce spam from getting into your inbox.

Here are Four Fighting Spam Tips:

Protect Your Email Address

Don't display your email address in newsgroup postings, chat rooms or in an online service's membership directory. Sometimes email spammers use these sources to harvest email addresses.

Create Two Email Addresses

Another good tip is create two email addresses. Create one for personal messages and the other for public use, such as in newsgroups or chat rooms.

You can create an account with a disposable email address service. Have those emails forwarded to your permanent email address. If the disposable address begins to get spam, just shut if off and get another one.

Create A Unique Email Address

Create a unique email address because email spammers often use dictionary attacks to sort through possible name combinations at some Internet Service Providers. A common name, like johnsmith or thewilliams may get more spam than a unique name like 37xi6OWt8.

Use Email Tools

Most email accounts provide tools to filter out potential spam or ways to channel spam into a bulk email folder. When you're choosing which Internet Service Provider to use consider their email options.

Although these simple methods might seem obvious, most people do not utilize them. You may be surprised how much junk email you can get rid of just by using these simple tips.

If you decide to eliminate spam altogether all it takes is installing an anti spam filter. Most are reasonably priced between $25 and $40 depending on where you get it. A good anti spam filter will block 100% of unwanted spam and will eliminate spam forever.

5 Ways to Effectively Reduce Stress

While stress is unavoidable, minimizing stress or reducing it to an acceptable level is a must for health, wellness, longevity, and productivity. Stress leads to numerous physiologic effects. Stress activates our flight or fight nervous system called the sympathetic nervous system. This activation leads to an increased heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, sweating (especially the palms), dilation of the eyes, and muscle tension.

Further increase in our stress level will cause poor concentration, irritability, mood swings, and reduced productivity. An inappropriate stress level also leads to a reduced immune system which affords the body to be more vulnerable to infection and cancers. Still, such stress will cause charged particles known as free radicals to increase in the system. Free radicals contribute to the aging process, vulnerability to infections and various cancers. Substances called antioxidants in foods (such as blueberries and broccoli) and some nutritional supplements fight and neutralize these free radicals.

The number stressors are as numerous as there are people on this planet. Some common stressors include debt, poor time-management, lack of exercise, poor job satisfaction, poor nutrition, and a poor mental disposition or attitude. Here are 5 ways to reduce stress in our lives:

1. Proper time-management: Start the day early/on time. Don't procrastinate start early on school or work projects. Learn to say NO (if you can) to tasks or projects others ask of you when there is clearly insufficient time.

2. Exercise: To maintain vigor, stamina, weight, good blood pressure, and mental clarity exercise is a must. Exercise will lessen muscle tension and regulate breathing and heart rate. Exercise will also fight disease by minimizing free radical production by the body.

3. Proper diet and nutrition supplementation: A diet well balanced in fruit, nuts, and vegetables while minimizing animal protein helps to maintain the body in good working order while sharpening the mind and decreasing stress. Proper nutrition supplements can boost the immune system, improve mental clarity, and help neutralize free radicals by supplying antioxidants. Nutrition supplements can also provide probiotics (good bacteria for the gut) that can support digestion and nutrient absorption.

4. Build your own dream. If you hate your job, do something about. Develop your own business. Start part-time and grow that business into a full time career. Then fire your boss! One type of business that takes little money to begin but gives you the advantage and a system of a big business is direct sales via network marketing or multi-level marketing (MLM). Don't just choose and join any company! Select a company with a good 5 year or more track record with quality and diverse product line or services in an industry that is rapidly growing. Such an industry is health and wellness. To make such a move requires guts, deferred gratification, confidence and the willingness to be a leader. Do your homework. The hardest work you'll ever do is to work for yourself. If you are successful at this, you will declare your time and financial independence.

5. Get out of debt. Having and maintaining debt is like trying to swim with a concrete block around your ankle. Financial stress is mental stress which wears on you every minute of the day. This stress leads to all the physiological issues we just discussed. Get on a budget; cut up the credit cards; use only debit cards; and pay cash for everything you buy (only exception may be buying a house and even then put down a 20% down payment to avoid the private mortgage insurance).
